UC Davis vs UC Irvine vs Cal Poly-SLO

Hey guys, I have been admitted to all three schools and I was just wondering which college would be the better one to attend. I am currently a Biological Sciences major for all three. I have a desire to attend Optometry school and become a pre-med student, but I'm not completely positive on my decision. I'm very hesitant as to if it's what I really want. Thereofre which school would be easier to change majors if I want to take on a different path? I live about 20 miles away from Davis, so it's pretty close to home. As of Irvine, I visited over summer and I loved the campus, but I heard it's socially dead? And as of Cal Poly, the demographics are dominated by White people and I'm an Asian Male. My sister currently attends Cal Poly so i'll have someone there. And I kind of like diversity as I'm from Sacramento and I'm welcome to all types.

So the factors into "the best" college to attend are:

The better reputation, such as rankings.

Campus Life

Social Environment

And many more, but I just can't think of it. I just want some people's opinions and what you guys think would be the best suited.

Thanks!

Since you are planning on attending med school, finances should be a high priority. I would say Cal Poly wins when it comes to surrounding environment (college town feel, friendly atmosphere) and it has a heavy focus on undergraduate education.

Will you attend Open House this next week? For me personally, the hands on education at Poly can’t be beat but not sure how much it applies to some of the pure sciences. In this case, the UCs may have an advantage. Generally, you would be picking from a large research university or a technical school that places much emphasis on its undergrads.

Demographically speaking, UCs have more diversity. Definitely visit the schools at the top of your list before deciding.

I would say UCI and UCDavis are both good for biology. Cal Poly SLO is good for engineering.
UCI is not dead, it’s near Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, lots of restaurants and things to do. There is also DisneyLand 20 minutes away. UCDavis is dead(to me anyway). It’s in the middle of nowhere, one hour to civilization(aka skiing, SF, and the Bay area).
