Okay so I would say that I am a student on the higher end of average, my ACT is 26 and I have a 4.57 GPA. I have gotten into UCI, UCSB, UCD, Cal Poly SLO, Chico, Monterey Bay, and UNR. I want to major in Biology, and eventually either become a veterinarian or a something in the medical field. I got WUE for UNR, which is really why it’s one of my top choices. I only got loans from fafsa, and do not want to be mountains in debt if I go to a UC. I’ve narrowed down my choice to either Davis or Reno. Should I save tens of thousands of dollars and go to Reno, or should I go into massive debt for my undergraduate education and go to Davis? I love Reno, but i’ve been seeing bad reviews of Nevadas secondary education system and I don’t want that to affect my application into graduate school. If I go to Reno, is it going to ruin my chances for graduate school?
I love Davis but I wouldn’t go into “massive debt” to go there.
If you plan on going to med school, you can’t have undergrad debt. Are you OOS for California schools? Go to a safety for undergrad.
No, I live here in California
Net price (list price minus grants and scholarships, not loans) at each school? How much would you have to borrow at each school?
I don’t have access to the exact numbers right now, but UCD would cost me around 33-34k and Reno would cost 14-16k
How will you be paying for either school???
You can only borrow $5,500 for freshman year.
My parents are going to help and I’m going to get a part time job
So your parents have enough income/wealth to make you full pay at UCs and CSUs as a California resident, but they won’t contribute anything? If so, then even UNR would be out of reach, since you can only borrow $5,500 without a cosigner and the remaining ~$10,000 would be difficult to earn in part time jobs as a college student.
What are the net prices of all of the other schools?
??
Where are you getting that cost for UNR??
Tuition and Fees WUE about $10,000
Room and Board $10,612
Books and Supplies $1,300
Other Expenses. $4300
Going to UNR with WUE has a cost of about $25k per year.
They want to contribute, but they couldn’t afford to do the whole thing. I’m pretty sure I would have qualified for the cal grant but (I know, i’m super dumb for doing this) I didn’t submit my fafsa until the last day, which was the day after the cal grant coul
*could be considered
I got that price for UNR from the calculator on their website
You should have an actual financial aid and/or scholarship offer by now.

What about SLO? Cheaper than UC’s. Much sought-after school.
Did he get into SLO? It is a very good school, but for a premed…UCR is the way to go.
I hope the OP comes back and sees that he’s misunderstood UNR’s WUE rate/costs. He’s seeing the two tuition rates as “per semester”…not per year.
The cost really is over $20k per year.
