UC Davis Welcome

Is anyone going to this thing? Will you be flying in or driving there?

nate

I live in SF, so I plan on driving up to Davis on either Friday or Saturday.

i don't know why it has to start so early considering 99% of the people coming to it aren't from davis.

the event starts at 8:45am, but registration starts at 7:15am

me and my mom will have to wake up at 4am, then leave at 5 in the morning to drive to davis

I don't think you actually have to be there at 7:15 to register... Doesn't the schedule of events say something like 7:15-2:30 (or some other time in the afternoon, I'm too lazy to look)? I think that means you can show up and register whenever after 7:15 in the morning. I sure don't plan to be in Davis by 7 am!

I came very early last year - didn't want to go to my morning high school classes hehe. You definitely don't have to get here at 7:15am - that's for sure. You register online, print your registration ticket, and then checkin when you get here, anytime between 7:15-3:15 it says. If had had to do it again, I'd shoot for around noon. That would give you more than enough time to take all the tours and you'd have enough time to explore on your own as well.

hey batman, did you attend this thing below?

Do you think it's worth it to come early to catch this session, or is it really a waste of time in your opinion? What do they talk about during this session, is it a panel question/answer format with the audience?

Also, are the lunch areas on campus open on Saturdays?

Nah I wouldn't come early to see that one - make sure do this stuff though:

Residence Hall Tours (10:30-3:30)
Campus Walking Tours (7:30-3:30)
Academic and Student Services Fair (11:15-1:15)

And yes, you can definitely grab lunch on campus. Check out the MU or the Silo if you want, but I'd go see what it's like at one of the dining commons instead - you'll eat most of you're meals at a DC, so see what it's about. I'd recommend the Segundo or Tercero DC.

can anyone explain how welcome day works?..we sign in and then they put us in a group or do we just walk around by ourselves? thanks

Please see the sample schedule for the day you are interested in attending, http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/welcome . You will not be placed in a group to follow. We recommend you view the schedule and plan you own day. If you choose not to attend a session and decide to visit your department office, assuming they are open, you are free to do so.

My dad and I will be attending the 4/6 welcome event. My brother who is a 3rd year UCD student will give us a personalized tour. I especially look forward to seeing the ARC, where I will be demonstrating my killer crossover next fall, dorms, and having lunch at the DC with my bro.
