@fizzy110, Cal Poly SLO was indeed absolute torture. Especially when you see that soooo many highly qualified students with incredible stats did not make the cut. It shakes you because you think that if you get rejected from a Cal State then you’ll get rejected from the UCs. Which of course is not the case. Many of those highly qualified students do end up at a UC. Cal Poly is just so competitive and many majors are impacted (Business, Biology, Engineering, etc.). This school is a little gem that has been gaining reputation over the last decade (Ranked #7 by U.S. News in Engineering among colleges that don’t don’t offer a PhD. Harvey-Mudd ranks first.). It is also smaller than most UCs, in a beautiful area, and cheap compared to UCs. So, all those factors contribute to the number of applications they receive, making it more competitive than ever to get in. Uff, it was quite the roller coaster ride to wait for admissions.
@arriba I was able to apply for the FAFSA as an independent student. I do not legally have parents and have not since I was 12 years old. I haven’t answered questions pertaining to parental income at all. But, desperate as we all are for a sign of probable admission, I was hoping that Irvine taking the time to gather further information from me was a good sign. It is not probable but I’m desperate
@Quitragin, you know? Come to think of it you might be right. I did call another school asking “why” they were asking for tax returns when they have not even issued an “acceptance” and their response was: “Well, we want to be able to provide students with a Financial Aid Package together with the admission.” So I think it does make sense to focus on asking for additional information from those students that will possibly get admitted. Otherwise it would be an incredible waste of time to do this for everyone, plus I don’t think any school has the resources to handle that. I wish you GOOD LUCK and abundant blessing, joy, and everything good!!
@arriba Thank you SO much! I hope that everything works out for the both of us and, if you are planning on going to Irvine, I hope to see you there!
@ucladeb If you are curious, you might wander back to the old CP thread. I tabulated the results of a couple of the more popular majors there. They are, in my opinion, weird. Since then, I have noticed that a lot of the higher scoring kids who were turned down by CP, are doing quite nicely with the UCs, and those lower scoring kids who were admitted to CP, are not doing so well at the UCs. Not saying the UCs do not have their own strange parameters, but they are clearly different from CP’s.
@67dadofsenior - expected she might not get accepted to SLO, and a good friend of hers with more APs and slightly higher GPA was also denied, so she is totally fine with it. Waiting for UCLA and Berkeley, but right now she would be happy with UCSD.
Judging from last year’s thread, we should be looking for admissions decisions starting in the afternoon and into the night. Please let today be the day they finally start coming out.
May the luck of the Irish be with us ^:)^
Last year they released decisions around 3PM PST and OOS heard first. There was also an email that went out… Anyone get an email?
I didn’t get an email. But crossing my fingers that it will be out today! I think everyone on this thread has been waiting long enough.
OOS and no email
Yessss it should be today T.T
Let’s wait until 3PM (PDT).
Quick question, since notifications are on portal, will it be one of the first things we will see like UCSD? Or is there more pages to redirect us to see the result of our application? Thank you in advance.
I don’t have twitter or facebook accounts. All I see is https://twitter.com/uciadmission or https://www.facebook.com/ucirvineadmissions. Is there any other place we see people admitted?
@AppleMactintosh It will the first thing you see. If you get accepted there will be a huge banner saying your admitted
I just hope to not see “Thank you for applying to UCI.” (It seems that rejection letters start with that sentence.)
@imjennah - it did not look that way for UCSC, you had to go to the admissions section to find it - it was not on the home page…I think every UC is different. UCSD had a big banner and UCSB said congratulations on the landing page once you signed in.
Ive seen what it looks like on twitter, its a banner on the first page. It does vary UC to UC
lol uc davis’ email subject: congratulations insert name here - you’re in!
