UC Irvine, Psychology student transfer question

I previously attended a 4 year instituion where I did not get the best grades, so now I am at CC. My CC GPA will be about 3.6, but when factored in with my previous grades could drop to just above a 3.0. I have seen that it is require to have a 3.0 UC transferable GPA to apply to the UC schools, but I have also seen on the UC Irvine website that you only need a 2.7 to be eligible for admission to the College of Social Sciences, where psychology is. Can anyone help me out, what is the minimum GPA I will need?

You’ll need a 2.7 GPA. The minimum for UC eligibility is a 2.4 GPA actually. Apparently, for UCI psych you’ll need at least a 2.7.

Try to TAG for psych to UCI, and you’ll be guaranteed admission. Best of luck!

Thank you! How do you know that information is correct, the GPA of 2.7 and 2.4? I am not elligible for TAG because I previously attended a 4 year institution and it was out of state. I am a research assistant at UC Berkeley in a psychology lab and have worked there for 2 years by the time I apply to Irvine/ I also volunteer at the Institute on Aging in San Francisco. How much will that help with the selection process

Those are great EC’s! They’ll definitely help you in your path to being admitted. I mean I think that if you can get your GPA up to a 3.3+ by the end of this fall semester, you should be good to go.

Well I know the 2.4 GPA is necessary for eligibility because that’s what it is for the UC system. You can probably just look it up on the normal UC site. Also, I mentioned the 2.7 for UCI because you said that you needed a 2.7 to be eligible for social sciences at UCI. I wouldn’t know personally; I didn’t apply there.

Btw I think that your research/lab work at UCB is totally cool. How come you’re not applying there? Also, why UCI? jw.

Thanks. I am going to apply to Berkeley as well, I just am not getting my hopes up…
