Idk wht my exact “UC GPA” is, but I’ve gotten solid As and Bs (1 C) in mostly AP classes. I also got a 1440 on the new SAT. I recently applied to UC Davis and Irvine & although I’m at Pennsylvania my parents said if i get accepted to either of them they will send me. My ECs consists of sports and church volunteer, nothing particular, but alot of them. I personally believe I have great leadership and made sure to include that on my personal insight questions. I can’t put into words how badly I want to go to one of those schools and my question to yalls are 1. What are my chances 2. When will I hear back? Thank you! I wish the best for all of you let’s stay on the grind ans meet at the top!!!
- What are my chances? What is your GPA?
- You will hear back in the Spring: late March, early April
Have you even visited Irvine?
Are you aware that your parents will be paying $60K per year for you if you get into a UC school?
It’s a California public university; there is no financial aid for non-residents. So will your parents pony up over a quarter of a million dollars for you to attend? Do your paretns know it will cost them that much money?
My mom is a Colonel in the US Army and I’m guaranteed a state resident tuition to any school in the US. Plus I recently joined the army reserve which takes half of my tuition (I also receive 350 dollars a month for 36 months). I’m not rich but becuase I’m fortunate enough to receive all these grants all I’m focusing on is getting in rn. Thanks for your concern though
Thank you my capped gpa appears to be 4.0
Tuition is different from room and board. R&B is usually not covered and it is expensive. Did you visit the campus yet? Need to visit before you commit.
California kids get priority.
I won’t be paying more than 30k/yr including room and board I know that for sure. That my family can afford.
And I grew up in Orange Country but moved to Pennsylvania
The UC’s are capping OOS enrollment. I don’t know how that is affecting OOS military. If your family is military and stationed in California, then your priority is increased.
Growing up in Orange County wont help the app unless you went to a California HS for 3 years.
UC Davis and UC Irvine usually release their decisions in mid-March. UC’s usually weigh grades heavily. Most people with gpa’s greater than a 4.0 get in but this doesn’t mean that it is guarenteed. You’ll just have to wait and see.
I’m not like most people here I don’t have the staggering statistics or accolades from major competitions. Hell, not even a good gpa. I’ll admit, my gpa isn’t that high becuase of how much I slacked off freshman and sophomore year. I worked hard on other areas (mostly athletics) instead of in the classroom. I got back on track Jr year and did pretty well on the SATs. (Well in my opinion) I know people that slacked off much as I did shouldn’t even think about schools like UC irvine but that is just a dream of mine that I hope to make it a reality in any way possible. ( I used my athletic ability to join the army reserve so I don’t feel ashamed at all)
Yes my mom is stationed in California and i was putting orange county out there incase you were wondering if I’m familar with the area
You are a competitive applicant and UCI/UCD are definitely possible.
Freshman admit rates (2016) for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 a
UCD: 58%
UCI: 65%
with a 4ish GPA, UCI is a coin toss. UCSC, UCR and UCM are highly likely to accept you.
good luck.
Slacking off freshman year shouldn’t matter, UCs only factor the a-g classes taken sophomore-junior year into gpa (and there’s a cap at 8 semesters of weighted classes). Prep scholar has a calculator to see your % chance of getting in based on both SAT and GPA but UCs have holistic admissions so it’s also dependent on your ECs and how good your essay is. You’ll hear back in March/ April.
