UC Language Requirements

Hello all,

I am a CCC poli sci major that has applied to UCLA (TAP), UCB and UCSD (TAG). I have taken french 1, 2 and 3 and received B's in all of them (the prof is notorious for not giving A's). Since french is a five unit class, this has impacted my GPA quite a bit. I took IB Ab initio french in high school and scored a 5 on the IB exam meaning that I fulfilled the two years of a foreign language in highschool with a grade of a B or better (thus satisfying the language proficiency) and I did NOT have to take french 1 or 2 at my CCC.

My question is this: Which school, if any, would take the two B's that I got in french 1 and 2 at my CCC out of the UC GPA? I really hadn't thought of this but a UCLA representative told me that might be the case. If that were to happen, my GPA would skyrocket because thats 10 units of 3.0 that would be taken out. Note that French units, while UC transferable, aren't needed AT ALL for my pre recs, unit count, etc. so if they were taken out then it wouldnt effect me negatively at all.

Thanks in advance

Are you referring to GPA used for admissions, or GPA at the school you transfer to?

UCs consider all transferable courses for GPA used for transfer admissions. But the GPA you will have at a UC after transfer includes only grades from courses taken at UCs.

I am talking about my admissions GPA, the UCLA rep said that there is a chance that since the proficiency was already met in high school, they won’t count french 1 and 2 in the GPA or as units taken.
