has anyone gotten a letter for the regents scholarship for berkeley? (letter= invitation to apply for it)

I know that they sent them out for UCLA, I was wondering if they sent them out for Berkeley too... or if they even follow the same process as UCLA

berkeley doesn't do it the same way as ucla. if you are selected for an interview, they send you an email in mid-feb inviting you to interview either in LA or on the berkeley campus; from that interview pool, the actual regents scholars are selected. there is no added/extra application involved, as they will be looking simply at your UC app. if selected, they also say that it is optional for you to bring recommendations on the interview day as well.

Generally, the very top students get it. And that doesn't mean an extremely high SAT (2300+) and such. The majority of students with extremely high numbers don't get it; the same can be said of people with average numbers, simply because the majority don't get it. That said, they look at your essays quite a bit, as well as your ECs, leadership positions, and honors/awards. The students who get Regents are usually unique.

Is it likely that those who got letters for regent's scholarship from UCLA to get invitations from Berkeley as well?
It seems like UCLA awards only 100 awards while Berkeley awards 200.

^^ that's how many of the regents scholars actually attend, not how many that are actually offered it.

It's very possible that they will get regents at Berkeley if they got it at UCLA. The two have different admissions and different regents committees. I wouldn't quite say it's "likely," but getting regents at UCLA does attest to the caliber of the student, something which may or may not get him/her regents at Berkeley.

It is my understand that Berkeley's Regents scholarship amount is need based. It you do not have financial need, you might just get a token $500 scholarship. Some other UC, e.g. UCI gives out full tuition for Regents and strictly merit base. Each UC treat the scholarship differently.

yes it's true that the scholarship is need based
basically, it frees you from taking any loan or any work study
however, if you have no loan/work study anyways, you would only get about $1000

for the people that receive a regents scholarship invitation for berkeley, are they guaranteed admission?

also, is there still a chance that i could get one (a regents invitation)? i haven't received one yet... i say yet, because the rank 1, 2, 4, and 5 in my school received one, but i didn't (i'm 3).

Regents invite are not based solely on stats.
