UC residency appeal

Hello

Does indicating a foreign country from where the income is received - on form 1116 line F - make one a non-resident?
either for US/CA tax purposes or tution purposes?

Thanks

If you are a US citizen but your parents do not live in California, you are considered a non-resident. So money you are receiving for your UC tuition is from your parents that live in a foreign country?

Being a non-resident for UC tuition purposes means you pay out of state rates.

Thanks for your response. My mother lives in California, but my father is in a foreign country working. They filed taxes jointly & paid 540 resident taxes. So just wondering what 1116 got to do with CA residency when 540 resident taxes are filed joinlty.

The operative question is: Where do you reside?
You need to contact the Residency office for your university.

I & My mother live in California. My father lives in a foreign country for work

form 1116 has line item f (resident) which if marked as a foreign country, then residency office says - you will be treated as non-california resident… Once 540 resident taxes are filed, should form 1116 matter? form 1116 is filed to show where the income is coming from i.e in this case income is coming from a foreign country as my father works in a foreign country…
Anyone has any thoughts on this?
