Hey guys,
So I’m trying to decide between UC Merced and UC Riverside and I’m just seeing if anyone has any insight that I haven’t considered yet. I’m going to be transferring in as a Junior, and i’ve already completed all major pre-reqs for ME major.
I was accepted to UCR as a Applied Mathematics major, whereas UCM accepted me for my preferred major of Mechanical Engineering. I visited the UCM campus a couple times so far, since at first I thought it was the only school I was accepted to, and it was a gorgeous campus that looked like it had a lot of opportunities for growth. And then I’ve visited the UCR campus a few times in the past, and just passed by it a bunch, since I’ve lived in SoCal my whole life.
My goal is to land a job in the aerospace sector, hopefully the commercial aerospace sector. I’ve always been passionate about space tourism. I mean how cool is the idea that one day a trip to space may be another vacationing spot.
Anyway, I guess my question is does the major really matter or is it what you do at the campus? If it’s what you do at the campus, does anyone know which one I’m better off going to? I looked into research positions at both, and it seems that it may be a little easier to acquire a research position at UCM, since the applicant pool would be smaller. But since UCR is a bigger and more developed campus, they may be able to offer more research opportunities.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys!
