How big of a factor is the essay in the decision at UC Riverside?

Your essay should read something like:

“I have a 2.5 GPA. I can spell my name. I would like to attend. TTYL! :D”

That should suffice.

Seriously, essays mean dick. GPA is king. As long as you don’t make a complete fool out of yourself, you are fine. Especially at UCR.

Haha so funny ^ ^

But yeah the essay means nothing @ riverside. If you have a GPA above 2.8 you are probably in

Is Riverside really that ■■■■■■■■?

No i think UCR is a great school my brother went there… Its not a great campus in my opinion.

Well, to be honest, if you can’t get a 2.8 at a community college, then, well, come on.

UCR seems to accept any of the students that the other UC’s don’t. If you have a *decent * GPA and complete the application, you should get in.

:)

This makes me glad. With little time left until the deadline, I was worried that my essay was going to be evaluated heavily. I have well above the 2.8 at CC - around 3.3/3.4 for the past few semesters but my past still haunts me/will play a minor role.

You should apply to a few of the other uc’s if that’s your gpa

easy on your s-talk folks, get over the highschool stereotype and attend ucr before putting it down. and fyi, check out over at the ucr cc page all the students that thought ucr is an “accept everyone university” and had their acceptances rejected because of all those awesome senior year grades and other selective criterias…

awesome research, down to earth professors, and first med school in the west coast in over 40 years opening 2012 = UCR

It’s similar to all the other schools. If your stats are borderline or below the average, then your essay will take on a higher significance. If your stats are above the average, then I wouldn’t stress yourself about it too much.

And MehediMD, I’m starting to feel like you’re a reverse ■■■■■ or something. Every thread I’ve seen you in you insult other people for bashing UCR and then you praise the school. I go to UCR and like it fine, but I feel like you’re getting a little carried away…

haha arcade… Riverside can use some love, no? No harm no foul :)

UC’s GUARANTEE you get accepted into one of their campuses if you meet the min. requirements… That means UCR and UCM takes the 2.8~ kids. Besides, Riverside (the city) is a dump. I’d much rather be at UCSC than UCR.

Riverside itself isn’t really an attractive area, it gets hot as hell this time of year, and tons of bums live there.
I, myself am from the Riverside area Corona to be exact. Like i said before UCR itself is a really good school, I have a brother who attended and went on to become a lawyer after majoring in philosophy.
It may seem like UCR accepts anyone but you still need decent grades 2.8+ and remember not everyone in the world is as bright as the people on this forumn.

so UCR is filled with the 2.8’s of community college? Well, the intellectual level of that school has got to be terrible.

^lol. Yes and no. People go to a specific University for a variety of reasons. They might live around the area, going there for a specific specialized major not offered elsewhere, prefer the campus to other campused, etc.

The mid tier UCs and SD take all students with a 3.0 from CC. That is not much of a difference.

Man, whatever. No one wants to live near or go to Riverside. It’s the ultimate fall back. I would go to CSUN over UCR in a heartbeat if not just to avoid the dump that is riverside. Plus the academics aren’t much different.

The elitism of this forum is really getting quite disgusting. Why do people constantly feel the need to bash UCR? It’s kind of scary it’s coming from people going to college.

Bashing? No ones bashing. We’re just telling the TRUTH about the school. Honestly, it’s not worth paying 9k+ to attend UCR. The city of Riverside is cheap to live in, but it’s riddled with crime and not to mention how dirty one side of the campus is. If I had a craptacular GPA (2.8) and was stuck with UCR, then I’d rather study for another year and raise it to 3.0+ to get into a mid tier or UCSC at least.

Think about it…most CCers are immediate high school graduates that rejected the idea of attending a school like UCR and wanted a second chance at UCI/UCSD/UCD/UCLA/Cal etc. It wouldn’t be practical at all to end up at UCR.

On CC anyone going to UCR just seems like an underachiever…
People in the real world don’t all have the same intelligence and work ethic as you people going to UCLA or CAL.
