@choji100 @sackings23 Some UCs have put up more requirements for transfers because of the increase in students applying to these institutions. Therefore, some campuses have implemented policies where having your Math and English requirements done by the fall before you transfer gives you an advantage over other students who still have to complete those requirements the spring before transfer. However, with that being said, you don’t know who is evaluating your application and how much that counts against you.
I would recommend looking up Math and English requirements for the campuses you applied to. I’m pretty sure the information is available if you Google it.
@sackings23 I think you’ll be fine. I don’t think UCSD puts much emphasis on having your math done by fall (I called them about 2 months ago and a UCSD rep personally told me that). A few UCs do ( UCSB being a major one i know for a fact). I think with your GPA you’ll get in so you must try not to worry too much. The only thing that could prevent your possible acceptance is if UC president Janet plans to enroll more OOS applicants and if those OOS applicants have their math requirements already completed by the recent fall 2014 term.
What do you guys think?
I am a foreign student, applying as a Junior transfer from a CC in Santa Barbara.
My GPA is 3.49, and my major is Economics
For an EC, I’ve had work experience for one of the biggest German companies of the globe. It was an internship right after my HS graduation (explains what they name gap in education), which lasted around two years.
I did my freshman year in a good (nationally accredited, also) four-year institution in Florida, but moved to SBCC for my sophomore year because the CC prepares students for transfer, and many of the accepted students come from California CCs. Do you think this would prejudice me? I took all units accordingly, the major GPA (Econ, Calc, English) surrounds 3.4, and the IGETC pre-reqs (6 units) will be completed by the end of the term.
I’ve been reading a lot of UCSD threads, and I saw many people with lower grades accepted, or getting to their wait-list. Also, I read the average GPA for transfer students was from 3.37. But what do you guys think, based on my story?
This wait has been killing me, and what’s worse is that transfer applicants should get responses around late April.
You know what I mean? I’m not saying I have THE perfect grade, but I’m trying to think based on what I’ve been reading from students themselves, which is more important than any statistics.
Also, I forgot to mention, I don’t know how appealing works, but my school’s staff committed at least two serious mistakes with me.
1- One was during my orientation at SBCC, when one of the international students’ counselor got mad at me because I got to the presentation late. It happened that she would be the one to point me what classes to take, based on the schools I had in mind. I remember the moment I got there and she said “oh, it’s you,” and took no more than 10 minutes with me, totally neglecting. It happens she pointed me the highest failure rate class of the school (accounting, passed with a B ) and said it’d be necessary to apply for UCLA. The matter is that I didn’t even have the chance to take the required classes, and she had not oriented me. She didn’t even pay attention, I remember the scene like if it happened today. I ended up finding out in the middle of the semester. Ruined my plans and the whole term.
2- The other was during a math exam. I was at the math lab before the exam, and one of the tutors mistook the exam I was using to practice, and told his boss we had stolen the exam. Result: my professor gets an email DURING the exam and reads it loudly for the whole class. I got that test cancelled, but also lost the chance and work done for that grade.
I’m not saying I’m the perfect student, but I was clearly prejudiced by the SCHOOL. Who is to tell UCSD all this? There’s no way one won’t get nervous and mad in this whole situation.
@Noggy092 I don’t think your situations are grounds for appeal if it comes to that. Those are issues you had at the CCC level, and any resolution should have happened there. You said your math grade was “cancelled” so that’s probably all you’re going to get. People who win appeals typically offer new info based on updated grades or classes. You won’t win an appeal based on what could have happened in a hypothetical world. Appeals are won with new factual information.
@2016Candles Oh I see…like if I have a good semester, I can appeal with that, for example. Good to know.
@HumbleTeen haha I didn’t know the exact meaning for this expression; looked for it on google and asked my roommate…well, I guess this is a good thing, huh? I know mostly of what I read was from 2013-2014, but what others wrote cheered me up a little bit, because this grade is not one that guarantees you, but at the same time, many were accepted or waitlisted by them. I just hope I can get in.
@jackielik @HumbleTeen I tried it just now and it said “The housing application will become available in mid-to-late March. Please check back. If you would like to learn more about housing at UCSD, please use the links in the Housing menu above.” What about you guys?
@HumbleTeen @friedchips I checked it few days ago. The statement had little difference from today. It said the housing application will become available in late March instead of mid-to-late March. Does it mean that UCSD try to post new stuff?
