UC Santa Barbara...or any UC in california

I took diagnostic tests of the SAT and my results were sort of the same. My writing is pretty good, considering I am non-American, but my math and English scores are really lame. I am planning to graduate and go to UCSB/UC Santa Barbara.

My scores averaged from lowest to highestare:

Math ---> 490 to 610
English ---> 310 to 470
Writing ---> 610 to 690

I am very concerned, worried, anxious, and depressed because I just can't do any better. I wish I can, but I do not know any other way. I am practicing math the most because I believe it is easier to learn math than English.

If I had the scores like the diagnostic results, would it be possible to get in UCSB?

If you're a not a CA resident, it's REALLY tough to get into many UC schools. Some folks have more success starting at a community college or Cal State School & transferring if they do well.

The scores you posted would be difficult for admission to a UC school, especially if you're not a CA resident.

xcutioners:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCSB: Reach

Unless you are a minority or have some other sob story, your chances at UCSB are slim.
Your best bet would be to go to a community college like Santa Barbara city college, and then transfer to UCSB after 2 years.

Well, I am a current US Resident of California =)

Umm... what else is possible to get in UCSB?

Low SAT: 1410
High SAT: 1770

Assuming you live in California, you could go to possibly UC Merced or UC Irvine. The rest would be very hard. What's your gpa? To get into UCSB safely, I would guess you need at least 2000+

Wow... 1410 to 1770?
Damn!! gasps!

Well... UCSB is mostly a party school so I believe it's alittle bit easier to get in =)..
I am really uncertain with UC applications =(!

only chances are riverside or santa cruz

Your GPA is really what's important for UC admission, though your SAT's still need some work.

Damn... I am trying to get atleast a 4.0 GPA and a 1650 on the SATs..

Besides that, I want to try to be a vice president of "anime club"..
For sports, I might join track & field or baseball or both.. =(

Umm.. would it put off for the college records?

the clubs will not negate the low SAT scores. I highly recommend you retake the SATs and maintain a decent GPA, since scores are what UCs care about the most.

The thing is, UCSB continues to get very strong applicant pools and tough admissions. Since you said you took diagnostic SAT tests, I assume you're still a few years away from college, and you can expect UCSB (as well as the others) to be more competitive.

I think you should aim for an 1800+ on the SATs to have a good shot at UCSB. When you fall below that, you'll need a strong GPA or good ECs to get admitted.

Wow... a 1800+ on SATs?
Well.. that's probably going to be alittle bit hard for me =(

I am hoping for atleasty a 4.0 GPA and like straight A's in every dang class...

grrr I feel so pressured >___<"

er...are you saying you have a 4.0 from 9th grade- 11th? that helps a lot. Then I would say you only need around 1800-1900

Nope...
My GPA in 9th grade was like 3.5 +

Anyways.. I am trying to work on math & english, but it's so hard to fit into my schedule because my AP bio is taking 1/2 of my studying time..

I am unsure if I should just drop it or not.. sighs

Try the ACT - I found it much easier. I only scored a 1210 on the SAT, yet got a 29 on the ACT. The guessing really helps.

ACT is easier than SATs?

ACTS are generally easier in the writing, reading, and math section...but ACTs have a science section...which i found extremely confusing. I say opt for Riverside, Santa Cruz, or Merced...or transfer in. By the way, how do i post new messages?

If you are in the 9th grade, u r in good shape.

getting that sat up 100-200 points is not hard at all in 2-3years. just try on the psat and you will be surprised ;)
