**** UC SANTA CRUZ CLASS OF 2021 APPLICANT THREAD ****

Just an FYI, S received his admission packet yesterday via snail mail.

how difficult is it to become a cs major with engineering undeclared?

I believe most of the freshmen are admitted with a “proposed” major and declare major after completing pre-req (some are admitted straight into the major with honors etc.)

Here is the chart for CS major: https://ua.soe.ucsc.edu/sites/default/files/CS_BS_16-17.pdf

The highlighted/grayed courses are pre-reqs for CS. Looks fairly straightforward to me. If you have taken AP courses in HS, you may be able to get credit for those right out of the gate.

i didn’t feel like making a chance me thread for just one school, so what do you guys think my chances would be? i’m from VA and i have a 1460 SAT and 3.9 UW GPA. i can see from the other threads that these are higher than the average scores, but i don’t know if being out of state would hurt me or not.

Back story

THIS ENTIRE WEEK WAS AWFUL! And the day before yesterday i just kept crying because I didn’t have a plan for what I’m doing after college & there were other things. Then yesterday I really felt God’s presence and I was in such a happy mood. It was such a productive day & I was like okay Im gonna check the UCSC portal just in case. I GOT IN! The thing is if I didn’t check I wouldn’t have known because apparently UCSC emails were in my spam for some reason?? Im so blessed & thankful!!

@kirsten4624 did you appeal

I didnt. I thought it said on UC website we couldnt appeal on waitlist? @BTSFAN

Son accepted 4/21 (early) off waitlist. 3.58 UC GPA, 26 ACT, very good EC’s: two high skill sports both varsity and club (captain twice), compelling essays, varied volunteer exp. and work in family business. The overall application strength helped him get in.

Son accepted off waitlist 4/21. 3.68 UC GPA, 31 ACT, 9 AP classes (all 4s & 5s), 3 sport athlete, good ECs. No appeal sent. He’s happy to be a banana slug!

@CABoyMom what was your son’s major

History

I accepted the offer, but I can’t find the place for me to pay the $250 SIR fee. lol
Does anyone know where can I pay?

should be a link in your portal, also have to pay housing fee and select top 5 colleges so be prepared

for some people such as low income, the deposit is deferred until later when financial aid is disbursed

My daughter went through the steps to accept her SIR, and then we filled out information to pay and submitted that. We received an email saying the payment went through to UCSC. But her portal still shows accepting the SIR as a “to do” and the buttons are still there to accept her SIR. When any of you accepted your SIR, did you get some kind of confirmation or congratulatory email or post saying so? Maybe that takes 24 hours or so? Just want to be sure we did what we’re supposed to do by the 5/1 deadline.
