How I even got in is a mystery, since I’ve 0 extra curricular with below average GPA. Now I gotta figure out how I’m going to get admitted to physics department since they have separate requirements. the majors we apply for during application process are “placeholder” majors; we gotta actually go there and declare one. If students find out there are different requirements for a major after they enroll, well…they’re kinda screwed.

I just called admissions for the reason for my rejection. They said that I didn’t complete the bio sequence, which I did looking at assist.org. God damit this is gay. Do you guys know when is the deadline for transfer appeal??

@CDelta: Do you know if you can declare your second choice major? I applied for econ/ math but I am missing too many math courses. My second choice major is Econ, which I have all pre-reqs done. And congrats!

@drdoolittling it seems to me way it works is like this: it dsnt matter what u put for ur first major or 2nd major, since u HAVE to go there to declare a major. It’s as if they’re accepting ALL transfer students as undeclared, no matter what we put on our application. Thanks BTW. I actually want to go but since I don’t meet the requirement for my major ima have to think of something on my end. Afaik UCSC is the only school that seems to do this.

REJECTED
UC GPA 3.39, history major
they said I didn’t meet the “criteria for a junior transfer”.
I took con-current enrollment class at UCB last fall, got an A-,.
Overall, I have a 3.90 for my major and as a non-traditional student (34 yrs old) with extensive work experience, and according to most, my personal experience as reflected in the PS is outstanding. I am beside myself with worry. If I couldn’t get in with UCSC, why am I thinking I have a chance at Cal. (P.S. I am taking another course there this semester and am doing well.)

@h14hopefull Sorry bout that. Something must be missing there. How many units have you completed? Are there any pre-reqs listed on assist.org that you haven’t completed?

IDK whats the deal w/ UCSC, I fkin finished my bio sequence that school. Took 2 courses, one of which satisfies both bio 20b and 20c for UCSC. Do you guys think they made an error?

@h14hopefull
You should have a better chance at Cal since you’re a non-traditional student. Cal uses the “holistic” approach and will read your PS… hopefully you have a well written PS and have the minimum units required for transfer!

@hi4hopeful - how many UC transferable units will you have? I ask because I was accepted to UC Irvine, but notified that I was short by one unit. I have a feeling I will be rejected by UCSC for the same reason as you because if you don’t have 60 transferable units, then you are not considered junior transfer. They stated I just need to take a minimum one unit class over the summer and all would be fine.

Rejected =(
Got rejected ~ 4/11 around 11pm to 4/12 7am

Strengths: GPA Trend, Honors, Attended UCLA Summer Econ class,
Weaknesses: Age
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Not sure. My age is my only thing that I think could be a factor.

Just an FYI - I knew I was going to get my answer last night/this morning. When I logged on last night, I clicked my To Do list. It had 2 extra option on there that were not there before. I could click around on “my advisor” ( I didn’t have one), search class schedule etc. I actually thought that because of that, that I was going to be accepted. Gut kick this morning when it said rejected.

Hi all - thank you for the replies. As the conclusion of last Fall, I had 53 UC trans units. At the conclusion of this semester, I will have 67 (that includes 2 additional major courses that I didn’t need) for transfer. My counselor and I checked and re-checked IGETC. All good on that front. Fingers crossed. But I’ve had a hard time today with this rejection.

Good luck in selecting your future colleges, fellow transfers! I was in your shoes last year anxiously awaiting my decision from UCSC. I didn’t find out until late April due to my very strange life/school history.

If there’s any advice I can offer you guys (after having been down this avenue myself), its to PICK YOUR SCHOOL WISELY. Often times people pick a school based on the prestige of your major/school. If you plan on attending grad school in the future, the prestige of your school quite honestly is not that important for the undergrad level (just make sure you perform well in your classes!). Pick a school that you feel the environment will complement you so that you can have a rewarding, well-rounded college experience! Santa Cruz certainly has its ups and downs, as with other schools, but I LOVE my school and campus.

Think about it this way. If you pick a school for the major, but HATE the area, do you really think you’re going to enjoy the remainder of your college experience? Being that many of you are CCC transfers, make sure you pick a school you enjoy so that you can actually experience what a true college experience is supposed to be like.

Anyways, its a somewhat random post, I know. Its Spring Spotlight up here in Santa Cruz right now, so it reminded me of how anxious I felt while awaiting my UCSC (and other school) decisions. I just thought I would write a little blurp back to the CC community after having been through the process almost a year ago. If any of you end up picking SC, feel free to stop by sometime and say “hello!”. I work at Bay Tree in textbooks (Jamie). :)

And FYI, the transfer page is a great idea. I saw somebody post about it earlier in this thread, and apparently they found the page I created last year! Its nice getting acquainted with people ahead of time (prior to Transfer Orientation). There were several group members on the transfer page that I met up with at orientation, whom are now my friends! Cool stuff. If any of you end up joining it, I know that the 2012 transfers would totally be willing to give you some advice on transferring.

If anybody has any questions about the transfer process, UCSC, finding employment, Cognitive Science/Psychology…or anything, feel free to drop me a line!

@kingdomsroa48, that’s really good advice. I did a TAG for Davis and got it - realized this semester that I would hate to live where it’s located. Thankfully I got into the school that I should have done the TAG for.

Does anyone know how UCSC is doing this? Are they releasing them by major, in batches? By which date should all be out?

I emailed Asking if there was any priority in how they sent out decisions like by major or region and they never responded, so no help there hahah

Accepted into Santa Cruz! (on top of SJSU and SFSU)

Now to wait out the tense 12 days until I hear from Berkeley. I was really hoping to hear from all four before then so I’d have time to make a decision, but I guess I’ll have to gather up all the info and wait till the 26th to accept an offer.

I just got back from visiting, and my god, I enjoyed it so much. Even if I somehow get into UCSB, it would be a really, really hard choice.

I actually somewhat hope that I don’t, just to make it easy. I have to agree with kingdomsroa48, I feel like I would be much happier here, prestige be damned.
