Hi,
I’m completing UC TAG requirements for UC Santa Barbara. I’m using my AP Biology and AP English scores to fulfill IGETC and transfer requirements at the community college I attend.
Reading posts of people like me who have done this getting TAG rejected…because of this reason. For instance: they took AP Calculus exam and was exempt from taking Calculus 1, but received credits for it at their CC. But even after passing Calc 2 with flying colors, TAG was rejected because AP Calculus score of 3 wasn’t sufficient for the UC.
Is this an issue I would potentially face? How can I know for sure?
My community college assured me that as long as I get my IGETC requirements “verified,” I wouldn’t have to worry about AP scores that have counted some courses as “pass” grades.
@lovecpa you will always be able to use the AP for IGETC but if the course is required for the major you need to look most carefully at the AP rules at each UC and department. It may not replace the course for the major, so you will need to take it.
What makes it more daunting is one UC might require you to take the course, while another will accept it for the major course, and thus will see the course as a duplication — meaning you won’t get credit for both. (So one UC might award 5.3 +3 = 8.3, while the second will not count the 3 and only award you 5.3.)
Also the top of assist in your major might tell you how it applies AP to major courses.

@lovecpa So I just got rejected with a tag but mine was due to not meeting GPA requirements(long story my past came back to haunt me droping my GPA 2.9). Despite that my counselor said I should have been in no problem everything else on my atg is good. everything they want should be listed on the TAG form and you should complete all requirements no exceptions (there is a lot of competition) talk with a transfer counselor at UCSB they should fill you in. but with my experience be over the minimum and keep your GPA up and you will be in no problem
