UCSB TAG AP Credits Questions

Hi everyone,

I have two major questions about the relationship between TAG requirements and AP credits. I am currently going to a CA community college and I would like to TAG with UCSB.

QUESTION 1) In high school, I received a 4 on both the AP Language and AP Literature exams. My community college runs on the semester system and says it will award “6 units equivalent to English 1 and 2” for a score of 4+ on the AP Literature and Composition exam.

However, I have noticed that UCs say they will only award “a maximum of 8 units” in English, as shown on https://my.sa.ucsb.edu/catalog/Current/UndergraduateEducation/APCreditandChart.aspx

Would this mean that if the community college gives me credits for 2 English courses, I am cleared for the 2 English courses required by UCSB for TAG? Or do I need to take another English class in high school even after taking 2 English exams?

QUESTION 2) Do credits awarded from AP units count toward the 60 UC transferable unit count for tagging to UCSB?

I am going to see a counselor soon, but any help for the moment would be very appreciated. Thank you very much!

– not sure what i wrote was correct

Hey. I’m not sure about AP english, but for tag i might depend on your major. For example, I took AP microeconomics in high school and Economics 2 (Macroeconomics) in community college. I applied to UCSB last year with TAG as an econ major but was rejected because I didn’t complete Economics 1 (Microeconomics) in community college even though I already took AP micro in high school. Call UCSB admissions office and ask them. From my personal experience counselors aren’t too reliable.
