Hi everyone,
I am a first year at UCR and I am not really liking my political science major or the university so far. I am a pretty good student and have been able to maintain a 3.7 GPA so far with around 60 units completed. I am looking to change my major to Kinesiology/Exercise Science; however, these majors are not available at UCR.
In terms of time, is it easier to a UC or a CSU?
And is it possible to transfer directly to a CSU or do I need to go to a CC first to complete the “transferable” unit?
I believe the requirement to transfer to a UC I need to take a year of Organic Chemistry with lab, General Chemistry with lab and Biology with lab. (let me know if I am wrong though)
Thank you!
You’ll need to make sure you acquire 60+ transferable units and do major prereqs before MOST CSU’s take you. Some allow select sophomore transfers for a few majors, not sure about yours.
If you’re unhappy at UCR going to CC to get all that done is a good option,
- Complete one year of general chemistry with laboratory with a C or better in each course
- Complete one year of organic chemistry with laboratory with a C or better in each course
- Complete one year of biology courses with laboratory equivalent to UCI's BIO SCI 93 and 94 with a grade of C or better in each course I believe this is the perquisites for Biological Sciences but it seems impossible to complete ONE YEAR (3 quarters) of all these three and still be able to get in on Fall 2019.
If you already have about 60 units then I hope some of them are from AP credits. Otherwise there may be an issue of running into the UC unit cap when trying to transfer as a junior if you take another year of school before you transfer. Look carefully into the unit rules.
You should talk to a counselor in the college of letters and science at Riverside. Even if you want to transfer to another college I think you’ll find they want to help you figure out how to do it. You can also call and talk to the department advisers at some UC and CSU school you are considering.
