Hello, I am a freshman at UC San Diego but am hoping to transfer to either UC Berkeley or UCLA at some point (either after one or 2 years). I’ve heard of the uc to uc letter of reciprocity which states that if you complete all your Ge’s at one uc, you are exempt from taking any Ge’s at the uc you transfer to. I was wondering if this letter of reciprocity applies only to my overall college ge requirements, or my major lower division requirements as well. For example, if I were to complete all the ge requirements of ucsd but not my lower div major requirements, would I still be applicable for a uc to uc letter of reciprocity?
Your best bet is to ask an advisor at UCSD because they have those confusing college rules. You bring up a good point.
To my reading reciprocity is just for the overall college gen-ed requirements but has nothing to do with the lower division requirements of any particular major. To me reciprocity just sounds like an equivalent to IGETC. If you satisfy the general-ed requirements of your college at UCSD they ought to write you the letter. You can always ask your ucsd college for the rules.
