Hi,
I have a question about finishing GE's before transferring to another UC from a UC. I feel like I will be able to finish all my GE's by the end of Spring quarter, but for some reason my school is not offering an English course that will help me finish my last quarter of english composition. They have the course but it is limited to seniors and usually they offer a course where it is combine and another course combined to help you meet 2 GE's. I just want to know, will I be able to take it in the summer? Or do all GE's must be finished by the time you finish Spring quarter? I am transferring from a UC to another UC so I'm not sure if it's different. Thank you.

I’m pretty sure you can’t use the summer prior to transfer to fullfill any kinds of requirements. Be it major pre reqs or GEs

Ohh, okay thank you. What happens if you are missing 1 pre-req? Will they decline you on the spot? If i am applying to UCLA, UCB, UCI, and UCSD…how strict are they on this issue?

^I don’t think they’ll automatically decline you. I actually emailed UCLA asking if my application would even be considered for an impacted major (MCDB) because I’m missing one pre-req (was math when I emailed, but is now the lab component of Bio). They said they consider all applications, even if pre-reqs are missing. So * technically,** the answer to that should be no. However, I know that us intercampus transfers are already at a disadvantage, and that schools like UCLA are crazy strict on pre-reqs. It’ll probably come down to your major…:(

The course i’m missing isn’t a major pre-req, i’m going to be done with all of those. It’s one of those breadth requirements and the one i might be missing is english because our school isn’t offering many classes and the ones they are offering are limited to seniors =(

^your at UCR right? Next qtr, hist99W satisfies Eng1C (I’m just waiting till Spring to complete the Writing Across the Curriculum course)

Yeah im at UCR haha. I don’t need history 99w though… i’ve already fulfilled an additional humanities and I heard the teacher is super hard. I don’t know if it’s worth it. I’m currently trying to get into English 1c for winter but doubt I will get in… Are you waiting to get into English1c spring? Or a WAC course? Cause I don’t know what WAC courses will be available Spring.

I’m gonna do a WAC class. I asked my advisor, you need senior status to get into English 1C, so your best bet is to take a WAC. and haha, the Hist99W teacher being hard is also my reason for not taking it

Same here… haha do you think they’re going to offer WAC classes during the Spring?? I’m just worried they won’t and then we’ll be screwed over

I’m pretty sure they’ll as they do every qtr, but as my advisor said, they still don’t know what WAC course would be offered.
On another note, how’s your qtr going? Finally, a fellow potential UCR transfer! :)

:) It’s going well so far! I’m taking 4 courses and gotta take like a few more classes to finish my GEs. It was just I was planning to take religious studies/ethnic studies WAC course since last year and now they’re not offering it! So it freaked me out that I wouldn’t be able to finish my English breadth, but that is good to hear they might offer another WAC next quarter cause I REALLY don’t want to take the history workshop class haha. What major are you going to apply for?

^ Great to hear! I’ll be applying under econ. And you? and I sure hope they’ll offer a WAC next qtr, or we’ll all be screwed and not get Reciprocity.
