Hi, i'm looking to transfer from UCSD to Berkeley for its prestigious Economics Program.

Total completed units: 84 quarter units (as at the end of freshman year. will probably complete another 16+16+12= 44 in my 2nd year)
Cumulative GPA: 3.60
Major GPA (Upper division courses): 3.66
Declared Major: Economics

I still have 5 remaining GE's to complete so that i can fulfill the UC reciprocity agreement.
Finished all the lower division requirements for my major, and the the only thing that pulled my gpa down is our Core sequence, CAT (B, B+, B+)

Would appreciate any comments on my chances or recommendations.

You need a good reason for a UC to UC transfer, and higher-ranked or more “prestigious” is not a good reason. Thus, you had better come up with something great in your essay on ‘Why Cal Econ?’ i.e., why it’s a better fit than SD. A great reason would be appying to Hass for undergrad biz bcos SD does not offer undergrad biz.

For UC to UC transfers, you also have to make sure you don’t go over the max limit of units. The minimum is 90 quarter units, but the max, I think, is 120.

As long as you have a high GPA, finished your GEs, and finished pre-reqs, you should have no problem.

UCSD has a great econ program as well, so prestige can’t be your only reason. Berkeley has to have something SD doesn’t.

I also want to transfer from UCSD to Cal.

Is the lack of undergraduate research programs a good reason to transfer? What if its the fact that Cal has a (significantly) better program than UCSD for my major? I feel like in my major classes, I’m being cheated out of an education; it just isn’t as challenging as people say Cal is.

Anyway, any comments would be appreciated.

I have one question pertaining to the max number of units.

The max does not include AP Credit right and classes taken in HS at a CC?

On my UC Irvine transcript I have 115.5 quarter units completed. But, I have only done 48 units at UC Irvine. (I’ve only been at UCI for 3 quarters) The rest come from AP classes and a few CC classes I took while in HS.
