UC TO UC Transfers, Doable?

HEllo,

As of right now I am a senior in high school, and I have been admitted to the following Schools

UCI(BUsiness adminsitration)
UCD(undecided social sciences)
UCSB(pre business economics)
cal poly slo(general engineering)

I know these are all great institution, but none of them are the school that I imagined myself spending the next 4 years of my life at, UCSD.

Also, I always wanted it to say UCSD, ucla, or ucb on my diploma.

IN high school I got a 2130, and an approximately a 4.0 UC Weighted GPa

I attend one of the top 50 high schools in the country according to us news.

My extra curriculars were weak at best, and I feel this is what held me back.

I wanted to know how dooable a uc to uc transfer is.

If I go to Irvine business administraion, is it realistic for me to set a goal to transfer to haas or ucla.

ALso, If I wanted to transfer to haas, which UC do u think would give me the best shot.

Going to a communitty college would save my family a lot of money and i know i can scrape the communitty college near my house and get a 4.0, but my parents want me to experiecne 4 years of college.

Can i transfer from one of the above uc's to berk or la, please help.

well uc to uc transfers do happen. but community college students (california) are given priority.

I was considering the same thing but transfering to cal instead if i dont get in form irvine or sd.

Well the benefit of transferring from irvine is that if you dont get ucla our already at Irvine. :)

Yeah, if you really want UCLA/CAL go for a CC. You will have a much easier path…also join an honors program when you get there and keep your GPA high.

average gpa for haas is like a 3.7/3.8 and having been both in a CCC and a UC, i can tell you that it is 1000000000000000000x harder to get a 3.8 at a UC than a 4.0 at a community college. Remember, A- is not a 4.0 .

it’s really not as bad as a lot of people think.

i mean, even on ucla’s transfer web site, it says priority is given to students california community colleges and other UCs.

yes, community college transfers do get better odds, but it’s not too much of an advantage to forgo uci and risk not getting into berk or la

jetforce makes the only real legitimate claim, that it’s much harder to get a higher gpa at a uc versus a cc.

cr_book: The OP also mentioned UCSD. That means he can TAG into UCSD, TAP for UCLA and Berkeley if his CC offers it.

The admissions statistics for transfer students to UCLA via TAP are generally 85%+ for L&S majors of course.

Over the last few years UC to UC transfers at UCLA sit about 30% +/-. CC students are around 40% +/-, usually in the + margin.

If his goals were for UCSD, UCLA, or Berkeley. I think the CC route is better suited.

i would agree with what you said, but then at the bottom he asks only in regard to berk or la. and gif he truly only wants one or the other, then the benefit of going to cc isn’t SO significant (not to say there is no benefit).

and in regard to the 85% tap thing. that is a typical example of association/causation confusion. so it’s not really relevant. (in that the highly motivated, higher gpa type people are more likely to do tap).

you can do a UC to UC transfer. just do well. i transferred to Cal from UCSC last year. I came with several other UCSC students as well.

i’m not saying that just b/c i did it, you can, but it does give you hope, right? I also know someonce at Cal who transferred from UCSD.

i’m assuming you got rejected from UCSD, correct? or have you yet to hear from them?

Yeah I am a UCSD reject, called them and I was 20 points away, wat were ur stats at SC to transfer, and wat was ur major?

Orion8,

I’m trying to transfer from UCSD to Cal next year, what GPA did you maintain and what was your major?

Also, if you have any stats on your friends, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Huu,
Although CAL doesnt release specific stats like UCLA does, according to Statfinder, you are able to get the average GPA from any 4-year transfer into CAL was a 3.69. Since UC’s have priority over other 4-year institutions, it’s safe to assume that a 3.69 is a safe number.

However, if you want to guarantee it, try to get a 3.8+ and you should be fine. Of course, this also depends on your major since the more impacted it is, the GPA you should aim for will be higher.

What major are you?

lol

Fancy meeting you here Adrian. Long time no see. Are you trying to transfer too?

Yeah, I’ve done my research, and I’ve come up blank for the most part. Cal doesn’t release specific numbers for majors such as physics, which is mine. But, UCLA stats were pretty insightful; about a 67% acceptance rate last year for the fall from physics majors. Its still hard to tell if that’s gonna be enough to offset the disadvantage of transferring from a UC.

Anyways, I think I should be fine though, as long as I keep my 4.0

uc to uc transfers is doable, but when you’re aiming for something specific like HAAS which is one of the most impacted if not the most impacted program at Berkeley, one can’t just assume the transition will be easy.
Once you start a program at a 4 year school, the goal is to finish that program, so the freedom to pick and choose your classes(like you would at a community college) is not realistic because your own institution will have certain requirements that they will want you to fulfill which may or may not have anything to do with what cal or ucla wants.

lol, this is my last semester at a CC before I transfer as a junior-level standing student to hopefully UCLA.

As for your situation - wow, 4.0. That’s pretty awesome. I dont think CAL is impacted in physics so you’ll be fine even if your GPA dips a little. Just make sure you do all the prerequisites required as those are the most important thing CAL looks at, supposedly.

Hey I was hoping for some advise. I’m currently a sophomore at UC Davis and I applied to transfer to UC Berkeley this fall. I only applied to Berkeley and actually included the school’s name in the general UC application so they knew that was the only place I was applying to. Do you think that’ll help my chances? As for my stats, I’m a B.A. Psychology major with a 3.54 gpa. I’m a member of the undergraduate psychology association, interned for a quarter, and was part of the floor council in my dorm. What do you think my chances are?

Can’t tell you what your exact chances are, but I will say that psychology is highly impacted at Cal. Best of luck.

To heygirl123,

I’m not sure either on your exact chances, but from what I’ve heard, it’s best not to write about the school you wish to attend. I heard that doesn’t impress the readers but rather makes them think you’re desperate to attend the school. Most counselors/English professors whom I worked with on my personal statements have told me so, but maybe it will work for you!

Best of luck and like whoshuu has stated, Psychology at Cal is very impacted! I’m trying to get in a well for next Fall!

You don’t think they’d consider that though my gpa (3.54) isn’t amazingly high compared to what others get at a ccc, my gpa is fairly solid coming from another, difficult UC? Also, does anyone know any of the stats for uc to uc transfers that got into berkeley? Like the acceptance rate or to go even further the acceptance rate for Psychology majors from other UCs? I just wish I didn’t have to wait until April 30th to find out!
