UC to UC

Does anyone know information on how difficult (or not) it is to transfer from one UC to another? Like in a hypothetical case, you want to go to a specific uc which specializes in your major, but you get rejected and end up in another uc. Has anyone here been able to do this (is it fairly reasonable)? How did/would you go about it?

thanks so much.

rarely does that ever happen,

because they give priority first to JC transfers and not UC transfers.

only if "space" is available do they allow some UC admits, but it's rare.

nevertheless, you should still try.

this year, there have been at least 3 people on this board who did it.

U want at least a 3.0 though and good amount of prereqs done.

its possible, UCR to UCLA.

lovelyweb,

yeah, on this board I heard a lot of people got into the UC's from other UC's. Chances for you obviously are not GOLDEN, but you should try nonetheless. It wouldn't hurt to apply. Except maybe for the money you will use to send those applications. That is about it. Try though...Good luck to you.

got into UCB from UCD

If you have the option to go to a CC before enrolling in a UC, it is recommended. It will be easier for you in the sense that CCs have programs which are specifically aimed at getting their students into the UCs -- TAP, TAA, GTO (but that's offered to freshman at the time of admission decisions), transfer advising, and so on.

That said, the admit rate of JC students is about the same as the admit rate of UC students, so the myth about it being "so much harder" to "near impossible" to transfer from UC to UC is, indeed, a myth. If I can find the link showing the table of admit statistics for transfers (it's lurking somewhere on CC on the transfer board), I'll post.

ETA: This table is specific to UCLA, but it's close to how the UC-to-UC admission compares to the JC-to-UC admission. http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof04.htm, scroll down to the last table on the page.
