UC Transfer Application Demographics

Hey guys, when we fill out the transfer application for UCs, the demographics section is optional. Will not filling it out affect admissions?

In theory no, but with diversity it could have an impact. For example, they seem to always want to know if you’re latinx, I assume because there are programs aimed at them. And there are also scholarships that might benefit you. If you’re thinking “I’m Asian and I read that works against you,” I personally don’t believe that is the case.

So you dont think putting that I am asian will decrease my chances? I am asian and i have a clear asian last name, but i didnt fill out the demographics section because i fear they will use affirmative action. @Ohm888

California public universities cannot use race/ethnicity in their admission decisions. The UC demographic questions are mainly informational.

The UC system is currently unable to formally practice affirmative action because it must follow Proposition 209, a California state law. Proposition 209 forbids institutions in California from considering race, ethnicity, or gender in public education, amongst other sectors.
