When transferring to a UC, specifically either Davis of Berkeley, how much would admissions take into consideration athletics? I would be coming in from an out of state Division I program, but I originally live in California. Assuming I transfer my junior year, if not earlier, do you think it would help? I am maintaining a 3.5-3.6, would transfer into the letters and sciences school, and would be competitive in the athletic program. Thanks for your responses.

Your GPA alone is enough to get you in to a lot of non-impacted majors, and make you competitive in many of the impacted ones (but remember community college and UC transfers have priority). I don’t know how much athletics would help with the admissions process, I imagine they would probably treat it like any other EC. I would suggest you contact the coach of whatever sport you’re interested in participating in and tell them you want to transfer. If they want you, you will get in.

it depends on what sport you play… you really should talk to the coaching staff at the schools you are planning on transferring too as well as your CCC, especially if you play football or basketball …I have a couple of friends on the football team at Cal and they were able to bypass the whole traditional admissions process, all they had to do was sign a paper and they were in.

definitely, if you are talented enough that you can play for the school, get in touch with the coach of those schools for a workout, they could get you in just the way luvtoolearn said

Yup that’s what I’m planning on doing for volleyball. I’m going to get in touch with the UCSD coach and if Cal works out, their coach too. Good luck!

I’m trying to do that for Volleyball too. But for UCLA. Or, at least, I really want to play after I transfer.

Oh nice!! What school did you play for? And are you a guy or a girl? UCSD is D2 and I’m confident about trying out ;)

If I go to Cal I’d love to tryout for their team as well. Last time I visited the campus I met Angie Pressey!! Haha I was so excited… And it’s weird that they have no men’s team lol

And if UCLA doesn’t work out for you, my friend told me that their intercollegiate team is competitive too so that’s another option for you.
