I don’t think UCs are going to accept far more OOS students than before. It’s just that the number of OOS students who were accepted increased past few years.
The article says the UCs have no idea how many students they can accept. Maybe all the UCs accept more OOS students. Maybe not. It’s even possible that UCs accept less students than before.
Actually, they are accepting the same amount as last year for in-state students. The significant increase in application might lead to a huge waitlist and rejections.

Thanks! this is interesting.
" if lawmakers don’t pay up, they will harm Californians — and Latinos in particular."
It it kinda too specific i think…
In terms of tuition, anyhow, while the OP is OOS, his tuition will be resident-based. So he won’t be adding to the coffers if accepted.
It is ridiculous to say UCs prefer OOS. They are even capping non-residents and refusing to admit anymore non-resident students than previous years for UCLA and UC Berkeley. The only possibility of increased enrollment spaces for UCLA and UC Berkeley will be reserved explicitly for in-state students.

Im planning to be a math major. I have a 3.8 ish uc transfer gap, and I’ve taken my major math pre reqs at a ccc, so I’m pretty sure they’re transferable. All I want is to study mathematics (cause they don’t have a math major at my current school), so I don’t really care where I go for undergrad. I couldn’t I apply to cal state because I’m not elgible because I haven’t taken a third semester speech/ interpersonal communication course. I am pretty stupid for not transferring back to a ccc, so right now I’m just hoping for the best cause UC’s are my cheapest, best option. If I don’t get in to ANY UC’s, I’ve already taken all of the available math courses and numerous other courses plus a bunch of AP credits, so honestly I don’t even know what to take if I were to decide to go back to CCC.
K honestly it seems like your getting way to ahead of yourself ? How many credits do u have, u only need 60 to transfer over as a jr. You might have taken classes which requirements were already met. You pick a major and after you complete your general ed you make up the rest of your 60 units with classes from your major
I have 10 credits from CCC, I didn’t take a lot of AP’s in high school, just chemistry, Physics C E and M, Calc BC, Psychology, World History, and a language, so 44 quarter units or 29.33 semester units of AP. I will have 59 units from my three of my out of state universities by the end of spring. If I don’t get accepted to any of the UC’s then I’ll just apply again because as I said there is no mathematics major at my school, I am sure to drop out if I get to rejected.
@Xaeyvr that sounds like a good plan. You stand a good chance, esp as you love math and your school doesn’t offer the major. Did you mention that in your app?
Ya I mentioned that, and how I actively sought math classes at other colleges. I mean I’m not really worried, cause if I don’t get in I can just self study mathematics on my own for fun (Well, that’s what I have been doing. I’m currently delving into real analysis, but there is a limit to self studying without others who actually major in math).
if you keep a good gpa you can always apply to San Francisco state in the spring instead of waiting until fall, that gives you time to finish your remaining classes in the summer. And did u pass all ur ap test?
For gods sake, why does he want to go to SF state? You’re such a downer every time you post.
I got all 5’s on all my AP test, unfortunately I got a 4 in psych and a 3 in language, (no good in non-math related courses), but for remaining classes, I dont really have any unless I plan to finish all the available computer science courses available at CCC, cause that most math related class I’m interested in taking. I could go to SF state, but students there are mostly there to get professionally oriented degrees and get jobs afterwards. I’m going for more of a scholarly / research type route.
Because ucs don’t offer spring semester transfer and I was taking to him not u
The best course of action is not to go to SF state. Worse comes to worse, just wait a year, take more math lower division at a CCC (unless UD add-ons from OOS school will put you over the unit max) and reapply. Application period is in 8 months. Time flies.
Personally, I think you have a fair chance at acceptance. I forget, what is OOS transfer rate? Ten percent? I think that’s it but I always forget. From that, add-in that a bunch just get dismissed because they don’t have units, pre-reqs, or minimum GPA. I wouldn’t be surprised, when the dust clears, based on eligible applicants, the admit rate is more like 4 out of 10. I’m just guessing, but based on comparable stats elsewhere regarding ineligibility, I bet it’s something like this. Math is not impacted. You clearly have a passion for it and hopefully it showed in your application. Your college doesn’t offer math and you did major pre-reqs at a CCC. It shows determination. Plus, you’re a CA resident.
And if u pulled of a 5 good for you were i got 3 5s but they were for history and gov which are much easier than science or math. You probably could have gotten into a 4 year after hs but maybe like me you chose to wait 2 years in the hope of going to ucla one day
Ucs only trasnfer over at the max 70 units so if he’s about to complete his 60 units might as well finish them instead of taking a maximum 1 class per semester for a year
It all depends on how many UD courses OP has in terms of unit max. But if he/she has two years at a 4-year, it may be a handful. Regardless, OP can possibly add as many LD as he wants at a CCC, but can only transfer 70 LD units. Anything over, OP would get subject credit. So it really depends on his UD count added to CCC courses of 70 or lower.
Well only time will tell, so I’m just going to relax. Thanks for your thoughts, I didn’t expect anyone to comment on this, since I made it back in November.
