On the UC transfer decision threads I have noticed that different UC campus's have different pre-req's. So far the only pre-req's I have been able to find on the websites are the A thru G requirements. These are obviously not what the posters are referring to (most of these posts seem to indicate that there are three specific requirements.) and I am obviously confused. Could somebody please point me in the right direction?

A-G are IGETC, you’re thinking of pre-reqs themselves pursuant to a course. You want assist.org ^^. And they do differ from college-to-college depending on what you major in.

Itachirumon is right. They’re referring to [Welcome to ASSIST](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST)

This is the most important website in your transfer process (besides College Confidential, maybe ;)).

If this is your first time, you want to view demos for how to use it. ([ASSIST Help Pages](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST))

If you specifically want to find your major pre-reqs (assuming you haven’t set eyes on the website before),

1) Under “Explore Transfer Information” on the home page, find
either your community college or prospective UC/CSU in the drop-
down list.
-
If you selected your CC, find “To: UC XXX”. If you selected your
prospective university, find “From: XXX College” -
Now find your major in the drop down list, and it redirects you to
an articulation agreement with your major pre-requisites.

You can also use ASSIST to find lists of classes that satisfy IGETC, that are UC/CSU transferable, and so on. I recommend you play around with it.

I want to note that there are varying amounts of pre-requisites depending on your major and university of choice. I can see why you got confused, because many of them have only three.

Does this also apply to students transferring from an out-of-state CC? The reason I ask is because I couldn’t find my CC as an option on ASSIST. I assume they are only showing California CC’s.

Oh, disregard everything I said before. I assumed you attend a CCC, and ASSIST isn’t meant for OOS transfers.

@BostonCrmPie is right in the regard that ASSIST is only for CCC but if you want to make an effort to apply to a UC then it just takes a little more work. As in you can use ASSIST to select your coursework.

He has to look up the pre-reqs for his major and find courses that look to be equivalents, correct?

Right. It’s actually not that difficult. Just takes organization and planning. In addition, completing the IGETC will actually help him when he applies to other four year institutions.

All he has to do is download the Santa Monica College course catalog (or whichever college. I prefer SMC because their catalog is clean and easy to understand.) Then go to ASSIST. Input SMC from the drop down list. Then say he wants to transfer to UCLA Business Economics and the course selection will be generated. Most of them are pretty simple. I mean Calculus I and II are the same everywhere. Econ is the same everywhere.

The same can be done with IGETC. This is a little harder since you have more options but the same method applies.
