I applied to 11 schools, 5 of which were UCs. I only got into Davis, and have been rejected by all my other schools (except 4 private schools which i'm still waiting to hear from +berkley). At this point i'm extremely discouraged, and Davis while a great school was no where near what I thought my potential was, nor was it a school that i wanted to attend. I've been rejected by schools that I was so sure i can get into.

GPA: 4.15
APs- 8 (four this year) 5 on all the others
Student Government 3 years
Dance 5 years
200+ hours of community service
Work experience
20 College credits already built up
SATI 1960 (what is really holding me back)
SATII US history 730

I've heard that it is easier to transfer to a high level UC by going to CC. I was caught between just going to a CC and working my butt off to transfer into UCLA or UC Berkeley, versus going to Davis which i'm unhappy with and maybe being able to transfer. Any advice?

Looks like we got the same problem. I only got admission to UCSD AND UCSB, so I’M still wondering what is the most possible way to transfer to UCB or UCLA.

Go to CC. If you really were committed to going to UCB or UCLA, your second chance lies in CC. I know plenty of students that go to C.C because they didn’t get admitted to their dream schools, it gives you a second chance. Take it and run with it. + you could save up to 60k in loans!

Well, history is impacted at UCLA(45% admit rate) and the average GPA admitted was a 3.74. But given that you have 4.15 and a lot of AP scores, I have no doubt you can pull a 4.0 at your local cc. You’ll definitely be above the average admitted. Just letting you know that the cutoff was probably a 3.5-.4 for that major, so it’s pretty competitive.

Wow, minniluna, I honestly can’t believe you only got admitted to Davis with those stats. Well, actually I can imagine because it reminds me of my senior year. I was in your same position (sans the Davis acceptance- lucky!), and I ultimately decided that CC was the best choice for me. Save some $$, get into a better school, and hang out in sunny San Diego for a couple more years… what’s not to like? Ultimately, if UCLA/Cal is what you desire, don’t take NO for an answer and try again. My dream has been the University of Michigan (law school), but for my bachelors I will probably just go to UCSB (waiting on Cal also). Never settle in anything, but remember there’s always grad school where the name REALLY matters.

@op
cannot believe with those incredible stats you are not admitted…

If you are not admitted to privates, go to CC. Using AP scores and 20 college credits, you can apply to UCB and UCLA when you start CC!!! And you can finish CC and UC in three years, and move on with life. haha

I was accepted to UCD and UCSB but UCLA is my dream school and I ultimately want to graduate from UCLA as a Political Science major. I was wondering if I should just transfer from UC to UC or attend a UC the first year and then Santa Monica College for the second year to get a better chance of being accepted to UCLA as a transfer? Which one is easier?

Transfering from UC to UC is not as daunting as folks make it out to be. I don’t know why everyone keeps perpetuating this. It’s true that “priority” will be given to CC becuase the next logical step is a 4-yr univeristy to complete their degree, but that does not mean they are more qualified than you (a UC student) to get admitted.

Go to a CC if you cannot imagine yourself at the next “best” school you were accepted to. It’s financially cheaper. However, I caution against that since you will not have the frosh/soph experience that a 4-yr college provides.

If you can see yourself a the next “best” school you’re admitted to, study well, have fun, make friends, take the necessary pre-reqs to transfer, and apply for transfer. If you don’t get in, you still have your friends and experiences from your frosh/soph years which no one can take from you!

You may feel disappointment not getting into UCB, UCLA, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, or whatnot, but don’t get caught up in the name brand. It’s what you do with your time at those insitutions that is important.

If you believe in your abilities and know where you want to be, it can be done.

fyi… I was accpeted to UCLA as a frosh and then 2-yrs later transfered to UCB in junior standing.

As well as making sure that the pre-req classes articulate that you take at your 2nd pick to your dream school. Most people pick the CC route because it is cheaper, usually easier, classes articulate, you have TAG/TAP programs and they are given priority.

The OP mentions either UCLA or UCB, but said they are still waiting for UCB’s decision though. Also UCLA does have TAP programs for participating CCC’s, I think they are all in the LA area though.

Why did you decide on transferring from UCLA to UCB?

Your right, UCB and UCLA both offer TAP… I was thinking TAG.

I wanted to study International Relations, but UCLA only has Poli Sci with a few courses in IR whereas UCB offered a Government major with more courses in IR. In addition, since my foreign language courses were in Madarin, the bay area was a much better place to practice it.

But the kicker… eventhough I was accepted to UCB, I didn’t go there. I went to Georgetown instead.
