UC Transfers First Choice?

@talludwig my brother has a bachelors in international affairs. He worked as an English teacher in Korea for two years and has been out of work since (4 years unemployed) I think its mainly cause he’s a lazy pot head and just wants to stay home and cook for my parents,
But you should be aware that it’s hard to find a job in that area =/ good luck

oh and btw
major: History (concentrating in the US)
top choices: UCSD UCD UCI UCSC UCR UCM

that’s like all the uc’s uchappytrain lol

UCSD

UCI

UCB

UCSB

That’s where I applied and in order of preference. I don’t really care for the name or anything.

Major - sociology
First choice - UCLA
Followed by - UCI, UCSD, UCSB

Also applied to cal states but won’t include those on this post

Major: Economics (with a concentration/specialization/minor in CIS, CS, or Accounting)

My top choice at the moment is actually a CSU, so…
Cal Poly SLO>UCLA>UCSB>UCSC>UCD>UCB

Big names are nice, but my main criteria is really whether or not I think I’d enjoy living there, and how many useful skills I’d be gaining for my career. UCLA barely made my second choice, just because living in LA doesn’t strike me as relaxing, but given its proximity to so many things I had to concede. I haven’t taken any campus tours yet because I don’t want to fall in love with a school and then not get in. So I’m going to apply to the places that look good to me now and visit the ones I get into. XD

UCSC>UCSB>UCI>UCM>UCR

Major: Marine Biology.

Santa Cruz has a great program for Marine Bio and biology. I’m also ready for a change of scenery after having grown up in SoCal my whole life. Riverside is the armpit of Southern California, I definitely recommend NOT going to UCR. As for SC, there are perks to living there for me. Beautiful environment, close to the coast, and the boyfriend goes there. #win. :)

Cal or SD, I guess.

UCLA is just… I don’t know. Their biology program offers many majors, but the degree requirements (across the board) seem very unstructured and disjointed to me. I think it’s nice to have ‘open’ requirements, but I’d like to see more required labs, especially for a B.S. degree. With regard to their computational biology major… it’s completely all over the place, and IMHO, doesn’t place enough emphasis on either the CS or biology aspect of computational biology. It is, however, (appropriately) math heavy with a few seemingly random EE-type courses thrown in. On the whole, I find their offerings to be pretty meh.

Cal’s MCB B.A. has a low unit requirement, but that’s understandable, seeing as how a B.A. is conferred instead of a B.S., and it allows one the potential to double major within L&S. I hear that MCB is a poopstorm of insanity, though - cutthroat competition and turdy advising. I don’t know how much of that is gossip from bitter pre-meds, so take it with a grain of salt. OTOH, I’ve heard great things about Cal’s CNR. They offer a ton of life science-y majors, and are supposedly very supportive when it comes to getting students involved in research and whatnot. If I went to Cal, I’d probably do a CNR major w/ a CS minor.

UCSD’s biology program seems to be highly organized and well thought-out, which probably contributes to its renown. I’ve heard good things about their advising and counseling - apparently there is a lot of faculty and peer support in the department. They offer a 1-unit P/NP seminar course targeted towards new transfers that aims to get new bio majors situated to UCSD’s research-heavy setting. I also like that they require most biology majors to take at least 2 quarters of biochemistry, 2 quarters of lab, and upper division genetics in addition to major requirements and electives. I think it’s important for undergraduate lifesci majors to appreciate the more quantitative aspects of biology and acquire a solid foundation in laboratory fundamentals. There’s just some stuff that can’t be learned from a book, and I like that SD seems to understand that. Also, their bioinformatics degree program seems to be the most structured and thorough of the three, requiring numerous programming/algorithms courses, 3 qtrs of biochem, 1 qtr of pchem, 4 qtrs of lab, upper division stats, and a few specialized bioinformatics courses designed just for majors.

UCSB

Major: Business or something else idkk

Major: Actuarial Science/Applied Mathematics
UCSB (only UC with an actuarial major  )
UCB
UCLA
UCI
UCSD

@anythinggoes1: I go to LPC as well :]

TOP CHOICES/MAJORS:
UCB (Sociology) > UCSD (Sociology) /UCLA (Psyhology) > UCD (Psychology)
UC GPA: 3.73
I tagged with SD so I guess you can say I am content with going there (I hope my TAG gets approved, which it should)

Lol PsychBruin2012, i would assume your first choice would be ucla haha

@uctransfer2012: When I made this account I was 100% sure about UCLA. But, it’s pretty impacted for psychology. I probably don’t even have a shot. Also, I kind of switched my major around. I am more interested in sociology than psychology (given a preference). I have a better chance of getting accepted to Berkeley. But, I really want to go down to so-cal. It’s definitely, a tough choice. Where do you want to go?

@PsychBruin2012 I mainly just wanna go to UC Berkeley like that’s my number one choice, UCLA is like very far second. Kind of like Berkeley or bust, but trying to keep my options open, but definitely cal is the place to go haha. I cant wait till decisions come out, i am very impatient haha good luck everyone!

Right now it’s probably UCLA and SDSU tied for 1st, UCI as 2nd, and Berkeley/UCSD as my last choices. For philosophy btw.

No pressure from anyone. I could go to state and no one would throw a fit. Sometimes it’s nice to come from non-educated family.

I’m at UCLA, CC transfer. I applied to UCSD.

UCSD>UCSB>UCI>UCLA

Econ major from SD. Love San Diego and would love to stay here. Its a stress free environment and UCSD will be on Berkley and LA’s status very soon. They are improving in so many aspects every year.

UCB>UCI>UCD>UCSB>SJSU>SLO.

This is what it is looking like for me. I live 15 minutes from berkeley so that would be the easiest option. My major is business admin.

1) Berkeley----------- 2) UCLA 3)UCSD----- 4)UCSB.

Where ever I end up going I want to double major. Communication (Media Studies for Cal) and Political Science.
