UC Updates?

Hello everyone,

I applied to the UC system as a freshman applicant (all campuses but Riverside and Merced).

Over the last few months (since submitting my UC application), there have been significant updates to my activities section on my application. I was thinking of sending the UCs an update, but UC Berkeley says

“Out of fairness to all applicants, Berkeley does not permit or review unsolicited information. If the campus requires additional information, a form will be displayed in your personal checklist on our secure applicant website, myBerkeleyApplication. Typically, unsolicited information or changes to your application will not alter our final admission decision. PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE providing new information with correcting false or misleading information on your application.”

However, the UCB website (the very same one) also states that
“Minor changes to your activities, awards, volunteer work, employment or personal statement are unlikely to have an impact on your admission decision. However, if you have significant updates in any of these areas, you may notify the UC Application Center via email: ucinfo@applyUCsupport.net

My counselor says that it is fair to send the UCs the information I am trying to send; however, the fact that Berkeley does not accept these changes worries me. Could sending this information irritate them and be detrimental in any way?

(http://admissions.berkeley.edu/applicationfaqs is the link at which these can be found)

Based on the second quote, I’d say send it. I think the first quote is just saying not to send official things unofficially (i.e. Test scores, Transcript, etc.). Send them the update, you’ll be fine

UC’s only want to updated on course changes or grades below C (D’s and F’s). You can send the update but it will probably not be looked at or have any impact on your admission decision. If they wanted any additional information, they would have sent you a supplemental questionnaire.

I think the OP is asking whether the committee at Berkeley may be irritated if you send the additional information?

FYI, we are are facing a somewhat similar problem so we will also appreciate any guidance. Even if they choose to not consider the information we send, could they become biased against us?

FWIW, In our case, friend’s of my my child say that sending additional information (even though these are important achievements) to Berkeley can hurt us as it will look that we did not bother reading their website which says that sending such information is not “PERMITTED”? Is that true? How do you all read this?

On this note, OP, please let everyone know if you find something highly relevant in this regards.
