I got an A on my winter class and I updated my application the moment I got this email but what this this mean? I thought they only look at your Transfer Academic update for fall?
They want to know if you are continuing to work hard rather than slacking off. And maybe your winter course is one required for admission? Your A will help push the decision in your direction.
The UCs do this at times with borderline candidates. They’ll ask for your winter grades to make a more informed decision. Fortunately for you, you received an A and can therefore build a stronger case for yourself. Take it as a good thing tho, cuz it shows they’re interested! They wouldn’t bother asking you for your winter grades if you weren’t even someone they’d consider, right?
And about the fall thing, you’re partially correct. They count your GPA only up to fall. So even if you got an A in this winter class, it wouldn’t raise the GPA used for admissions. However, campuses can still use information updated through the TAU at their discretion. So if you took an important class over the winter, and you’re able to get the grade in before the TAU closes, they might use that information. Certainly for your case, they’re going to use that information, as they wouldn’t request it otherwise.
BTW in the email did it say that a specific campus wanted to know? Or was it just the general UC?
@ericbadmon thank you for taking your time to reply. It’s just the general UC. I did tag too for irvine and I met all the TAG requirements with flying colors, and I believe I’m eligible too for CHP Because I updated my TAU the other day, does that mean I lose the priority I got by updating my TAU last January?
I’m pretty sure you’re good. Cuz as long as you update it once before the tau deadline, that’s all that matters. They let you update it thru the end of march just in case things change, as it does for a lot of ppl. Plus They specifically requested you to update it, so idk how they would penalize you for doing something they asked you do to. Also I had to update my tau past the deadline as well due to a sched change and when I called them about it they said I’m fine as long as I put in an update before the deadline previously
