Is it possible they’ll have a separate release for L&S OOS? I haven’t heard anyone get in L&S OOS, but I don’t think there is precedent for a separate wave…? Anyone know?
it makes sense. I would think the majority of people opting into the waitlist would be L&S OOS applicants. And I think Berkeley really wants these applicants since it is less selective than engineering/coc and we’re paying full tuition. I hope they are just reserving most (if not all) L&S OOS applicants until the next wave.
@tennisninja So then why did they release in-state L&S? According to what you’re saying they’d want to maximize OOS spots? To fulfill their quotas? Just playing devils advocate here.
@tennisninja I know an international from China who was accepted today and her major is linguistics and another guy also from China, but I’m not sure if he’s L&S or not.
@Ajchen So OOS students have to pay full-tuition and the regents are always pushing them to accept in-state students (who pay much less) just bc they are pressured by california residents who pay taxes for the UCs to accept more in-state people. Hence, in order to get the most money, berkeley wants to maximize OOS students while maintaining the bare minimum in-state students to keep the regents happy. So therefore the largest pool of cash cows for berkeley is L&S OOS students. And I hope that is reflected from waitlist acceptances. So far I don’t know anyone OOS L&S who was accepted from the waitlist the first round today, hopefully my original theory is right. (Again this is just a theory)

For those who got in L&S:
I know a lot of people are offered spring admission and my fin aid is only showing spring, but I’m still offered the fall program for freshman. Is it the same for everyone else?
if i remember correctly you didn’t check off the option for fpf or global edge right? @punjabae

hmm I guess that relieves any regret I have about not checking those boxes as I understand that it didn’t really impact my decision. And congrats btw and good luck at Berkeley! @punjabae
