UCB Haas Fall 2021 Transfers

Hello everyone! I posted a thread before but it was a bit too early for a Haas transfer thread. I think it’s a good time now and I just wanted to get the forum rolling on a transfer thread for UC Berkeley Haas 2021 applicants.

Feel free to comment based on this template (obtained from UC Berkeley Fall 2019 and 2020 Thread):
GPA/ MAJOR GPA/ UC GPA
[ *] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):
[ *] Job/Work Experience:

Applying to what schools?

Good luck to everyone in this process, especially since these rather unprecedented times!

Might as well start y’all off with a reach/less likely transfer.

[li] GPA: 4.0.[/li]
[li] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Current: nutrition/exercise–climbing, bicycling, the oh-so-modest bodybuilding. Past/high school: Boy Scouts (worked summer camp staff through HS), (student council). Biiiiig deficit right here.[/li]
[li] Job/Work Experience: Manager at sporting goods store from 2014-2017 (they put me in charge of the hunting department. I was running background checks for firearms sales and managing federally and state-regulated inventory). Admin at accounting firm from 2017-2018. Bookkeeper from 2018-2019. Staff accountant from 2019 to present. 70% tax prep for small/medium businesses and individuals, but with a specialization in cannabis tax compliance and advising (both dispensaries and grows). 30% bookkeeping/accounting (and consulting on same) for small to medium businesses. Also consult for my family’s property management/real estate company. [/li]
[li] Volunteer/Community service: Work for BSA in high school likely doesn’t count; this along with my extracurriculars is my major weakness/gap. I do some “pro bono”-ish work for small/woman/minority owned cannabis clients (and have a few references I could use), but only to the extent of going above and beyond my usual scope of work and not billing extra time–nothing official or easy to document. Another big deficit.[/li]
[li] Personal Statement: Work experience makes the required major prep question pretty straightforward. Comfortable on the optionals as well. My HS college counselor is helping me develop them (we’re tight) and I’ve got a few college professors on email chains.[/li]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Y.
[li] Intended Major: Business Admin (this is the HAAS thread :)).[/li][
] State (if domestic applicant): CA.
[] Country (if international applicant): N/A.
[
] School Type: CCC.
[] Gender: M.
[
] Income Bracket: Middle.

[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): Honors Transfer status at CCC. Mom diagnosed with terminal cancer right after I graduated high school (which extended my gap year until 2017, when she passed away). [/li]
[li] Strengths: Work experience, GPA. Additionally, in spite of the evidence presented in this post, I’m a decent writer :). A little on the older side (25).[/li]
[li] Weaknesses: Lack of extracurriculars/involvement in community (beyond yourself…).[/li]
[*] Applying to what schools? Safe(ish): UCLA, UCSC due to transfer agreements. Reach: Cal, a few out-of-state privates. Dream: Shoot let’s waste money and apply to UPenn. Why not.

Hey guys! I’m applying to UCB this year as a one year transfer! I am currently at a four-year in Texas but I will be attending a CC next semester.

[li] GPA: Either a 3.9 or a 4.0 (depending on my grades this semester)[/li]
[li] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Honors Program at my 4-year university, (President of Service Organization in highschool) Member of that same service organization for 5 years, served over 300 hours with it. (Student-body Vice President) (Junior Class President)… I don’t have much for this year because of COVID. [/li]
[li] Job/Work Experience: Manager at conjoint shipping and dry-cleaners, Hostess at a diner, social media internship with small business, a real-estate internship with a local brokerage. [/li]
[li] Volunteer/Community service: Served over 300 hours in high school. Volunteered at my high school with new students and freshmen. Writing letters to senior citizens affected by COVID-19.[/li]
[li] Personal Statement: not completely sure yet[/li]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: N
[
] Intended Major: Business Admin
[] State (if domestic applicant): CA.
[
] Country (if international applicant): N/A.
[] School Type: CCC (but also attended a four-year)
[
] Gender: F.
[li] Income Bracket: Upper Middle.[/li]
[li] Hooks: Honors Transfer status at CCC. Dealing with unstable family (mental illness and abuse). [/li]
[li] Strengths: Extracurriculars (I think since I am a one-year and because of COVID they will look more at my high-school activities). GPA if I end up getting all A’s. I am taking 8 classes this semester so I am hoping this makes me stand out and look dedicated.[/li]
[li] Weaknesses: All my major prep courses (besides those credited by AP scores) are being completed this semester (and a couple next semester)[/li]
[*] Applying to what schools? UCLA, UCB, UCSB, Northeastern, USC, Boston University, Notre Dame

@oneyeartransfer2 Keep in mind re Haas, they rarely accept non-CCC transfers. Since I’ve been up here these last few years, I’ve only seen it once (maybe twice?). They also are not too keen on one year transfers as they like seeing a lot of college level ECs completed. Last year a one year was denied and that was the reason they gave him. That’s not to say you won’t get accepted but this is the general policy.

I talked to the UC admissions board and they said that I will be considered a CCC transfer because I will have 30 units of CCC work completed by the time of transfer and the CCC will be the last school that I attended. I also have two marketing internships, am apart of the honors program, a real-estate internship, and a part-time job.

@Ohm888 ^^

Make sure to write your essays that incorporate the 4 Haas Principles into them.

  • Question the Status Quo
  • Confidence Without Attitude
  • Students Always
  • Beyond Yourself

Personal Statements: Focused on work experience and club participation. Developed essays alongside a Haas MBA, over the fall. Integrated 4 Defining Principles.
PIQ’s Rating: 7.8/10

Applied for Financial Aid: Planning to Apply
Major: Business Administration (want to double major in Econ since there’s overlap)
State: California born & raised
School Type: SoCal CCC
Gender: M
Income Bracket: Middle
Also Applying: UCLA, UCI, UCSB (TAG), UCSD, CPSLO, Stanford, UVA, UMich, NYU, UoMiami

Does anyone know when they will be releasing the supplemental application? On the website it only says early January. Thank you!

It’s open right now!

Look at your MAP@Berkeley

Essay prompt is:
“Describe a time when something important to you did not work out as planned. How did you respond and what did you learn from the situation?”

Hey everyone—scholarship question. Context: I am transferring to Haas from UCLA.

Before I was admitted to UCLA, in my senior year of high school, I received an invite to apply for the UCLA alumni scholarship (which indicated good things about my possibility for acceptance). Basically, the application readers flagged a small percentage of the pool as strong candidates and had the alumni association send the initial invites.

Does anyone know if Berkeley has a similar pre-admission scholarship invite process? I think they do for freshmen, but I’m not so sure about transfers. I know they have a few alumni awards (i.e the Leadership Award). When I was a senior in high school, my invite from UCLA came in my email on February 5th, 2019. So if Berkeley has a similar program, those eligible would hypothetically be getting the emails right around now.

What do you guys think?

Hi everyone!

I turned in my supplemental application. However, I’m just a little paranoid and a tad bit anxious. Is everyone else able to see what they submitted it in the portal? I see a display button but when I click on it, it says that the registration has passed which means I can’t see it. Is this like that for everyone?

Also, is there a confirmation email that says the supplements were submitted? I have green checks next to the application, but I just want to make sure that my applications were really received. Thank you!

If you have three green checkmarks, you are in the clear.

Is anybody on here able to view their supplemental application by clicking “display”?

Hello!

Thanks for responding to my question! I am not able to view my supplemental application when I click the display button which was why I thought my application was not sent in. I am given a message that the registration is unavailable because the registration deadline has passed.

I hope that helps!

interview requests get sent out in mid-March, right? I’m so excited/nervous!

I heard from someone that transfer interviews get sent out the first and second week of March, can anyone confirm this?

I looked at the forum for last year’s Haas transfers and video interviews got sent out on March 16. However, it could be different this year as I’ve also heard interviews might get sent out the first or second week.
