UCB UCD or UCSB???

Hey so i am a prospective student for the pre med track. I was initially accepted into UCD and UCSB, but recently I was caught off guard by a Berkeley acceptance. This has made my decision process even harder, especially because my dream med school is UCSF which i have heard berkeley feeds students into. But Berkeley also is terrible for finding and paying for housing, also the program is supposed to be pretty cut-throat. Davis is a good school but i dont particularly like the smell or area, and ucsb is expensive to live at but would provide me with easier academics and a fun area. Needless to say this has created a difficult decision process for me. Do i take the new acceptance from Cal? Or should I go to either UCD or UCSB? Thoughts and advice are appreciated.

UCSF does not exist- you are thinking of the private school University of San Francisco. UCSB I heard is a pretty good place to start hacking away at pre-med because of the research opportunities, the campus vibes, and also your competition isn’t as intense as at Berkeley or even Davis.

Important to consider is whether you would be happy at the school and the degree you get from there if you end up NOT pursuing pre-med, consider which school you think would not only be most helpful with whatever career path you can fall back on if pre-med doesn’t work out but also where you would be happiest and most efficient at getting good grades.

Congratulations on your acceptances and feel free to message me, the decision is usually easier to make if you have a major and “Plan B” career path in mind. Best of luck.

@grimmghost: UCSF is a graduate school for Health sciences which includes a Medical school.

Sorry X_X I meant that UCSF is not part of the undergraduate UC system and now reading it I see where I misunderstood. Regardless, competition is very tough for in-state california pre-med students since we are already densely populated as pre-meds. So don’t count on getting into a California med-school just by attending a particular UC school, like how many students believe that by attending Davis that it makes them so much more likely to get into Davis’ med school.

What is your major? @firebatV
