hi, i'm about to start my second year at community college with hopes of transferring to ucb or ucla as a philosophy major. i've finished 43 units and have a 4.0 gpa so far. i have one more pre-req to finish this semester for UCLA (side-note: hardly any CCCs have philosophy transfer agreements with berkeley, so i'm just following UCLA's). my question is: how important are extra-curricular activities? i did a lot during high school (MUN 4 yrs, work-starbucks, golf, tutoring, etc.), but not that much at my community college (intl. business club member, math honor society, tutoring). what i've been focusing on is producing/distributing my skate video/documentary to raise money/awareness for the skate park that the city just tore out. needless to say, it doesn't have much to do with philosophy or school, but it's for the community nonetheless. should i be concerned with doing more extra-curricular activities, or am I fine? are there any other philosophy majors facing the same problem of discussing previous experience with the major on their personal statement? any advice?

Don’t doubt yourself. You have a lot of units completed and you just need 16 more units, and if you have a 4.0 with that then I say you have an excellent chance at UC Berkeley and UCLA or wherever you plan to transfer. Do well in your IGETC courses like English, Math, etc, I’m assuming you will because you have a 4.0

For extracurriculars, I say do one or two things you are interested in, whether it be sports, business interests, or community service. or you could get a job

For your personal statement, just write your reasons for your interests in philosophy. Is it Metaphysics, Epistemology, Ethics, Etc? Whatever you are interested in, just craft an essay that shows why you chose philosophy and why they should have no reason NOT to take you

prereqs / igetc / 4.0 –> philosophy.
you’re fine.
in 9.5/10.
