***I went to Cal State fullerton for my first year of college and earned 26 lower division credits there, but I will have earned 55-60 credits from my community college by the time I leave/transfer. Also, I stayed at my CC for a year and a half now (2 years by the time I leave/transfer), and this CC will be the last school I attended before I transfer somewhere else. So I believe I fit the definition of a community-college-transfer?
Here are my stats:
Major: Philosophy
GPA: 3.64 (including grades from Fall 2015) (I have 1 “W” on my transcript) (I have a pretty steep upwards trend - my GPA after my first semester in college was 2.64)
Major GPA: 4.0
Pre-reqs: done
IGETC: done by spring before transfer (I actually have it “done” right now, but my CC didn’t get my sat2 score for the foreign language requirement, so I have to re-send it)
Personal Statements: I’m not sure if I should rate this because this is so subjective, but in my opinion, they were not spectacular. However, one of my professors proofread them, and if I remember correctly, he said “good stuff” before giving me a few suggestions.
Extracurriculars: Philosophy club at my CC (which I mentioned in one of my personal statements), community service in high school, track and field in high school.
Question: which CC do you attend? I was under the impression that no CCs in CA offered all 4 of UCLA’s prereqs. CCSF and Cabrillo College (I think?) offer 2 or 3 of them, but I think there’s one requirement missing. I’m missing one for UCLA, anyway. Never heard of anybody completing all prereq’s for UCLA’s philosophy at their CC.
I’m sure you’ll get in, given the upward trend and major GPA. You’re very competitive for Berkeley, too.
BTW, the UCs don’t mind if we discuss these details of our application on a forum right? Sorry, perhaps I’m over-worrying, but I might have OCD (as you might’ve guessed from my writing).
Yeah, I think you have a very good chance for UCLA - 3.64 is higher than their average admitted GPA as it is. Upward trend + 4.0 major GPA is a bonus. You have demonstrated interest in the major (phil club), and I’m sure your personal statements are good. Also, it’s pretty rare for philos majors to have all requirements completed. Pretty sure you’ll get in.
@Cayton transferred to UCLA for philosophy as well, you’d probably benefit from talking to them if you haven’t already.
@JacobfromCA
I think you’ll get in if you’re classified as a community college transfer.@lindyk8 may know more about how one is classified as a community college transfer. Your GPA is above the average for the major, and philosophy isn’t that selective overall. All pre-reqs done is a bonus!
@goldencub
Some CCs offer all necessary pre-reqs, and others don’t for UCLA. My CC(Santa Monica College) had every pre-req necessary, but that’s probably because they’re known for working closely with the school in making the transfer process as easy as possible.
