UCD Advisors/Counsellors

I am entering UCD this fall and I pretty much have a clear idea of what major/minor I want to do, and what I'm planning to do at the end of my sophomore year at UCD. I was rejected by UCB and I would definitely want to give it another shot, as a transfer student from UCD. I was wondering if there are any advisors on campus that specialise in helping students participate in the inter-UC transfer. I am planning to major in Economics and minor in Computer Science.

If you could advise me here, I would definitely appreciate it. Here are my questions:

I heard that Comp.Sci is an extremely impacted major, how will it affect my chances if it were my minor?

How impacted is Economics?

What are the most important things I have to look out for before I file for transfer?

Major Requirements vs GE Requirements?

Statistics of student who has successfully transferred in the past

Thanks for reading, I look forward to your help.

It’s important to do the major requirements as determined by UCB (not UCD). Try to get as many of those done. One big problem is Berkeley, in general, does not do UC-UC transfers. (There may be a very rare exception.) UCLA is the most accommodating in terms of UC-UC. Since it may be close to impossible to get into UCB, it might be best to stay at Davis. I would call UCB and speak directly to those depts.

Thanks for the reply. I do realise that it is near impossible to be admitted into Cal, but I’m can’t live with myself knowing that I never tried.

I’ve taken a look at the transfer flyer that Cal posts on its website, and it says that for the L&S, we have to finish the GE requirements, which I can complete through the UC reciprocity clause (if I’m not mistaken). However, nowhere does it state that I have to complete my major requirements, so I’m guessing that I should complete as many as possible without exceeding the 60-80 semester units?

:) What I meant was if you are doing any at UCD make sure they fulfill the UCB requirements for the majors not the UCD ones, as they will differ. The more you have done by end of sophomore year, the better. And right, there are unit caps as you mentioned. But really, you should call the depts. if it’s basically impossible, I have no doubt they will tell you.

Having said that opening line, that’s another reason you need to know your chances right away. If you take the requirements as set out by UCB and can’t transfer, you’ll probably have more classes to take in order to fulfill UCD major requirements.
