Hey, guys. I'm having dilemma choosing whether I should go Davis or Santa Barbara. I got admitted as Econ for Davis and Econ/accnt for SB. Since both of school have similar ranking which school's Econ major is better? Also, my goal is to become a CPA. SB provide some accounting classes, while I have take all of accounting preparation courses at extension for Davis. Thing is that I prefer Davis campus better and my friends and family are saying its better to go Davis. My question is does it make big difference if I take accounting courses at extension rather than main campus?(in cases I want to get recruited by big 4) Also do I still have opportunity to do interns at accounting firms if I decide to go Davis? Please someone help me to choose school anytime soon! Thanks!

Both schools are great! But I know for a fact the big-4 recruits at santa Barbara. I’m not so sure about Davis because they don’t have an accounting program (or they probably do?)

Nope. Only way is I have to take classes at extension. Do you think it’s going to make big difference? Between extension and main campus courses?

That I don’t know, but I’m assuming accounting is accounting wherever you go. But overall, I think it might be just a less of a hassle to stay on campus and take the extension.

I would say that Davis has a slightly higher reputation in most fields (SB is often thought of as a party school.) That said, I would personally prefer the location of Santa Barbara. SB is a beautiful city right on the beach, within a short drive of LA… which makes it more appealing to me than Davis. There’s not a whole lot going on in the Sacramento area. Have you visited both campuses? If you can, I would… that should help you decide. Since they are pretty similarly ranked, I would go with the school that has the environment you prefer. Good luck!

i think i would choose santa barbara. it is no longer a party school and it is very hard to get admitted to santa barbara, much harder than davis. but i am a history major and the history department at santa barbara is very good. also, i would not like living in the area where Davis is located and i love santa barbara. i think you would make better contacts in santa barbara as well, and it is close to LA, where there are more jobs than northern california. davis is a good school, but the area around davis is bleak to say the least. i really don’t think you would make many contacts, except classmates. tough decision, but for me, santa barbara. good luck.

Davis does have a Managerial Economics major that contains both economics and accounting (just like UCSB’s Economics and Accounting major). You could look to switch into that, as it should be easy to because you’re already an Economics major. More than anything else I would strongly recommend that you visit both schools. And make the decision you want, not one based on what you’ve heard from friends or family. One thing that everyone should know about UCSB’s E&A program is that there will be one Economics class that you will have to take at UCSB. You will have to get a B or higher (not a B-) in that class in order to be admitted into the full major. If you do not, you will locked out from the major and will have to major in something else. That isn’t to scare you or anything, but it is something to keep in mind and consider.

UCSB is not ranked higher than UCD. UCD is ranked number 38 for National University rankings. Howver if your looking to be recruited by the big four for accoutning then you’d want to go to Santa barbara. UCD does have managerial econ but UCSB’s program is more suitable for then things that you looking for.
