UCD TAG and dropping a prereq?

I got approved to UCD's TAG, and my major is managerial economics. So at any rate, one of the prereqs for this major is a a basic computer concepts class. At my CCC, there is no basic computer class, just C programming. I'm supposed to take an introductory and intermediate level course in order to fulfill Davis' ECS30, but I am really suffering right now and desperately want to drop the intro course this winter and NOT take the intermediate course in the spring. I've already finished all my IGETC requirements and have well over 60 units (nearly 100). There are easier alternatives at Davis, and I want to take it nextfall. If I report these changes on the TAU, will my TAG/admission be jeopardized?

Dropping prerequisites can really hurt you. Email them to make sure.

I did email admissions, so far no reply. I DID call a TAG representative, and she told me that if I didn’t take that intermediate course next quarter, it’d be ok. I didn’t think about dropping the intro course until after I talked to her—for some reason even after her ok I’m still uber worried.

Log onto the TAG website https://uctag.universityofcalifornia.edu/students/index.cfm</a>, and look at your UC Davis tag acceptance. Look under “Major Course(s) Required:”. If the class is under there, you pretty much have to take it. Also, isn’t the TAU priority deadline already past…in any case even if you update it and it nullifies your TAG (I don’t think they tell us if this happens?) you can still get in based on just the classes you’ve already taken, although it wouldn’t be guaranteed. Also, is the class that you want to drop listed under your major in ASSIST?

Like mermaker said, contact to make sure, and preqs are more important than IGETC, especially since Davis doesn’t require it.

I fully explained my situation in the email, and this is what admissions sent to me:

“Thank you for contacting Undergraduate Admissions at UC Davis. As long as you are still meeting your TAG requirements then you are fine. If you need to go part time, you need to submit an explanation why. It might be a good idea to pick up a different course if possible to maintain full time status. If you decide to go part time, you will just have to explain what the situation is and why you are going part time”

What do you guys think of this? If it did jeopardize my TAG, I think that they would have advised against me doing so. But their answer is still a bit vague—“meeting TAG requirements”? Do they mean to maintain my GPA, and finish the classes that fulfill the UC transfer unit requirements(in which don’t include those computer classes)? Alphasigmafire—I don’t see where the “major courses required” is when I log in, but yes these are under assist for my major. Also yes, I am aware that the TAU priority deadline has passed, but it’s to my understanding that you keep making changes until the end of March—it’s just that UC may not necessarily be evaluating them.

You probably just got a generic email…

Are you looking at your TAG decision statement? Log onto here https://uctag.universityofcalifornia.edu/students/index.cfm</a> and press “view” next to UC Response Posted. Under the part where it says you were accepted and your stats and whatnot there should be a “Major Course(s) Required:” picture here http://i.imgur.com/ubMdMsp.png</a></p>

If the course is listed there you have to take it otherwise your TAG is invalidated I think. Also if it’s on assist you probably need to take it anyways to have a higher chance of getting in. You’re right about the TAU stuff.

Ah…now I see what you mean. No I don’t have that for my major, I’ve satisfied both the math and english requirement. I probably would have that “major courses” section if my major was still selective, and it no longer is starting this year. I’ve finished every single prereq…except for that nasty computer programming prereq. At Davis, I only have to take a basic comp concepts class, there’s no need to go anywhere near C programming, but it’s the only option at my CCC. I didn’t ask the TAG rep. that I called about dropping the class I"m in now, but she said that I don’t need to take the next level to the class next quarter if I didn’t want to and that by doing so I’d be in no danger. Maybe I should call again and ask thoroughly…though she might just give me the same answer.

The reps aren’t all that helpful…but if your major isn’t selective then it many not matter that much (mines is, obviously). Hopefully you can get an answer…
