UCD vs UCSC for Biology

Hello,

I was just curious as the advice from your guys on UCD vs UCSC for Biology, here are my comments first:

For UCSC, I will need to take a summer class to be enrolled for Fall 2014, while UCD isn't requiring anything else of me for summer. The summer class will be kind of a burden, and I would rather not take it, but I am not just going to use that to decide whether not not I should go.

I haven't been to either school yet, I am planning on visiting in the next few weeks, but just from the pictures and what I hear, Santa Cruz is a nicer area and campus (I love the beach and lush plant life that SC seems to have).

Academically, I feel UCD is better, ranking wise for Biology, but I am not too sure on this.

Of course all these factors and more will contribute to where I pick, I would just like some insight on the things I mentioned and maybe additional advice and info for them? I have done some research, there is just some inconsistencies of course.

Any comments or advice is appreciated!

Bump ? :(

UCD is highly ranked for their sciences. I may be biased since my son currently attends but I think you are leaning toward UCD anyways… Good Luck Go AGGIES!!!

I would choose Davis. It’s a really nice place to study the natural sciences because they have a variety of different focuses. Also, I would recommend visiting the campus first. UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis are both very different.

UC Santa Cruz does have that interesting campus look but I never saw it as a place to live in, only visit. It’s close to the boardwalk and the beach though. UC Santa Cruz has more of a diverse community than UC Davis. UC Santa Cruz, however, is not highly ranked as Davis and it seen as a low-tier UC.

Also, if UC Davis isn’t requiring you to take any additional courses before the Fall then I think that’s something strongly to consider. And If you are a biker, UC Davis is perfect!

@ocnative I am not a bike rider, but it wouldn’t be a bad thing to pick up :)
