I just got accepted into FSU today and was accpeted to UCF about a month and a half ago. Im not sure what I want to major in yet. What school do you guys think is better place to attent? Im leaning towards UCF but its a tough and big decision.

I think it really depends on what you want out of a college experience. They’re both well known schools, and they are both public, so tuition wouldn’t be all that different at either (especially if you’re in-state).

I would recommend checking both out in person if you haven’t already done so. Campus visits are usually the deal breaker for me. I’m the type of person where if I don’t feel comfortable somewhere just walking around on a tour, I can’t imagine myself there for classes, football games, and you know… the next 4 years of my life!

Since you don’t know what you want to major in, it may be more difficult because you can’t really compare specific programs, but you can look at other, more aesthetic qualities of both campuses.

Here’s what the college board says about what to look for when you’re visiting:

[College Campus Tours - college interviews, visits](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Campus Visit Checklist – BigFuture | College Board)

IMHO: I would choose UCF if those were my two options. Besides from the fact that FSU doesn’t have my major, when both of these schools sent reps to my high school last year, I remember UCF talking about all the different job opportunities and assistance from the school that were possible for students to get, whereas FSU talked about their wave pool and student life.

Thanks!!
I visited both schools and I loved UCF’s campus, it was almost like a resort lol. But I like the northern type feel FSU had and the traditional college feel it had as well.
Thats another thing i was looking at, the area and around the campus and possible job opurtunities that each offers.

I’ve heard a lot of people tell me that Tallahassee is dead… and that there’s not all that much there outside of the college itself. I wouldn’t know first hand though, because I’ve only been through that area once, when I was like 8.

I live about 40 minutes South-east of UCF and though it’s not “right next to” Disney World, which is what people think of when you say Orlando, it is in a pretty nice area. There’s plenty of stuff going on in Orlando. I try to go out there about once every other month for shopping and such, and it’s so relaxing because I’m comfortable. UCF made me feel comfortable.

Tallahassee scared the heck out of me. Idk if I just went on a bad day, but some spots reminded me of the fallout 3 wasteland. I got chills driving around outside campus

Ive heard that to itsxlizzyxxox
I heard that UCF was going to knock down the nightclubs library and fubu which are the main get together spots at night for the school. If thats true, it kinda sucks

Haha good refrence ProblemOfChoice!!

UCF is a lot more modern and it has A LOT OF GOOD STUFF going for it. It’s now a top tier research university and has internship opportunities right next to it. If you want to major in engineering or computer science, then FSU does not even come close to comparing to UCF’s standards, in that respect. While FSU is a good school, its engineering and computer science is not as good as UCF’s.

Not only that, but I know people who attend UCF and they say like…UCF pretty much cares about its students. It wants to make sure the students strive, BUT, given that this is the real world…no one is holding anyone’s hand.

Plus, at UCF you have Disney World nearby! :P

I just got accepted to FSU also but deferred from UCF for summer 2012. Honestly idk what I’m going to do if I get accepted to UCF. I never visited FSU but when I visited UCF I felt right at home and like it was the best choice for me. Ever since I’ve been obsessed, but now I feel like I would be crazy to pass up FSU and the opportunity for pre-med there. I’m going to visit and see how I like it but I REALLY REALLY want UCF.

It all depends on what you want out of college. This is a really hard choice, because the two schools are polar opposites of each other. While FSU has a classically beautiful campus, UCF has an amazing modern one, striving for the future. I have visited FSU, so I’ll tell you my experience with it.

What everyone said above is true, the area around FSU really made me shudder. We passed a lot of off campus apartments, and I felt really bad for the kids staying there, because the neighborhood didn’t look safe. Very run down, with a few fast food places. Once you get on campus, you feel safer. The buildings are beautiful, wonderful architecture, but that makes the run down buildings stand out that much more. The tour guy told us how the campus is big, but because it’s so compact, it feels small. At first, I thought it was great, but the more I walked around, the more suffocated I felt. It wasn’t spacious. The dorms frightened me, and the only really good dorms are for honors students, or the all girls hall. Their cafeteria is really, really pretty and, well…it feels like hogwarts, which is awesome, even though it was smaller then I though. The people seemed very friendly, and you could see a lot of school pride-the tour guides, however, kept talking about how much they hated UF. We get that, but being out of state, we don’t care about football. There’s so many beautiful trees, and this pretty little fountain in front of the school, but the gym looked really run down. Maybe remodeling? There’s positives, and negatives to the school, and it depends on what you want. If you LOVE football, and lots of school spirit, and the area, then attend there. Some people are very impressed by it, and I just wish I could have been.

Also, I’ve read this link countless times. If you scroll down a bit, the member ‘grad boy’ gives a really good job of critiquing each school. It’s great, too, because has attended ALL of them. All have positives and negatives, and I hope the link helps, it helped me:)

I mean you should definitely take into consideration that Orlando is the same way. Lots of crime and bad buildings. Lots of weirdos but that comes with most areas like that. There have also been shootings very close to campus. So I would not say ucf is significantly safer and in a safer area, if so at all.

Not a question of safer, but what area just gives you a safer and more secure and comfortable vibe. Tallahassee doesn’t give that feel, it’s very run down, as in the south side of chicago run down, except worse.

Well if you’re going off that, then yes I also feel unsafe in Orlando, as well as all the other places I visited. The area is nothing like the campus, same goes for FSU. There is a lot of poverty and the crime index for Orlando is 2-- which means it is safer than 2% of the cities U.S. Tallahassee is not much better being 5, but you have to realize orlando isn’t necessarily safe just because it looks it. It’s more than just disney world and universal.

I know, I’m well aware of that. I just think this member should know that Talle won’t offer him good job oppertunities, unless he’s interested in the government aspect. The tour guides said they couldn’t find any kind of internships because, well, there’s nothing there. It’s all based on his preference though. Oh, and Justin just found out he was deffered from FSU until march 14:/ We remember the tour guide saying last year, that by late february, freshmen housing is completly full, and he can’t afford an off campus apartment his freshmen year, so he won’t be attending. Besides, he doesn’t like FSU. I’m REALLY trying to convince him on USF, because even you said it was a good school:)

Thanks everyone!
The more and more i think about it, i keep seeing more positives fror UCF then positives for FSU. But both are great schools!

did he apply for fall or summer (fsu)? and yeah he should definitely try for usf. all is not lost for fsu though, if he changes his mind. he can still get a dorm if he has a room mate with a decent priority number.

and just trying to throw out all the facts out there. i am completely unbiased because i love both schools. however, i do like ucf more because of the feeling i get from it, which is totally personal and you won’t know unless you visit. i will admit the negatives to both schools honestly. everyone’s different and there is a college for everyone. i really hope i get accepted but it will be okay if i don’t. either school is an amazing opportunity. for me, ucf has more of a complete package (out of what i want in a college) but a big aspect of choosing a college is academics which fsu is better for and had time to establish itself because of how old it is. BUT fsu does lack in some other categories for me so choosing will be hard!!!

No problem! If worse comes to worse, and you end up disliking UCF, you can always transfer to FSU:)

He applied for Fall, because he’s an idiot, and never listens to me. I feel awful, because I got his hopes up for nothing. He doesn’t know anyone who attends FSU, so he can’t really request a roomate. I’m going to keep the hope with him, though, and make sure he gets into florida, somehow. I feel like florida colleges are the best kept secret! Don’t worry, you’re going to get in:)

I got accepted into FSU too. Now FSU has been my #1 school for a really long time, however I chose UCF in the end because I feel like UCF will allow me to have more opportunities for me to do the things I want to do in college. I’ll be majoring in hospitality and UCF is the best place to be, I’ll be able to study abroad in England, maybe get a paid internship, and Orlando has a bit more things to do. I love that FSU is a traditional school with great school spirit (and it looks like Hogwarts), but I feel like I won’t be able to go as far as I would at FSU. Choosing between FSU and UCF was a big decision for me and I still contemplate it sometimes, but I feel like UCF is where I need to be. And if I end up not liking it, I can always transfer to FSU. lol

I feel like you should go to FSU if you want the traditional college experience, but if you want something new with new opportunities then go to UCF.

hospitality, hands down ucf.
