uchi chances... big reach or no?

hi- my ideal school is the university of chicago. please evaluate my chances...

I attend the second most competitive public school in Washington state.
(we will be sending one student to uchi is the fall)

Academics: Im an "upward trend student" starting my highschool career out with a 3.35 weighted I now have a 3.55 including a 4.1 second semester of my junior year. I will be taking 4 AP's next fall and will likely apply early to an ivy league. I will likely be ranked in the 170's (unweighted) and in the 120's wighted out of 400. My expected SAT score (from june) is 2100+
I also have taken much initiative in building the kind of schedule i want to have. I have taken an independent old testament class for the last year as well as independent arabic language classes at a local college. and next fall will be taking independent art history as well as studying for more ap tests that i cant fit into my schedule.

Leadership: I was a 7th and 8th Grade "class senator" (one of only 4 in my grade) 9th grade class vp and 10-12 class president.

Athletics:
Tennis: I played number 5 for my highschool's tennis team, had a perfect 9-0 regular season and finished 3rd in the "metro division" I will be filling out recruitment forms shortly for tennis.
-Baseball: Since I was 13 I have been pitching for "18-U" All-Kitsap county baseball teams. I have played for numerous all-star teams and lead the metro division in batting average for freshman teams (hitting .535) I was also voted hardest worker both freshman and sophomore years.
-Cross country: I run a 4:50 mile and run in the number two slot for my school. I have run multiple 5 and 10K's and will have run 2 half marathons before college apping begins. I will also run 500 miles this summer as part of training.

(I could possibly be recruited for any of those sports... most likely tennis or baseball)

Debate: I am the washington state co-champion of LD debate. I am a two time national qualifyer. and was the only junior from wash state to qualify to "the tournament of champions". i also finished 5th or 6th out of juniors nationwide at the tournament. Next fall will be the third year that Ive been captain of the team. during my tenure the team has grown from 7 members to 40 members. I have been top speaker at numerous tournaments and was the only debater to clear at all three "washington bid tournaments" i am also the only debater from my school to qualify to TOC or nationals in debate. I was also 2nd at state in extemporaneous speaking and 3rd in impromptu speaking. i am also the only junior in history to win the University of Puget Sound's Charles Battin award for outstanding speaker. Im the first junior to with the 3A state title since 2001. I will also be in the top lab of the nations largest debate camp and have a decent shot at making the all american team, and being one of 5 people to travel to south korea in feb 2007. I have been contacted by a few schools interested in me debating for them.

ive heard uchi isnt nearly as numbers based as the ivy's and many other top notch schools so i think i have a better shot in that area.

-how do i mitigate the damages from such a mediocre gpa?
-ive heard applying ea gives me a much better shot at getting in, is this true.
-does interviewing give me a boost in admit possibility? (enough to fly out there before november first to visit/interview when i will be in the chicago area on nov 18 or so anyways [too late to interview for ea status])

thanks for reading and taking time to give me feedback.

-greg

Your GPA is low for U of Chicago, but hey who knows.

with uchi there are alot of variables that go into admissions more than just numbers, the intangibles matter more at uchi than at other top school admissions (this is what I've understood). what are your unweighted grades? the only thing that could really hold you back is your grades, but you seem like a relatively solid candidate otherwise.

i will have a 3.45 unweighted after this semester. and will have a tough senior schedule (4 ap's)

anyone have any suggestions for these three?

-how do i mitigate the damages from such a mediocre gpa?

not using words like "mitigate" just to sound smart...

dude there are alumni who do interviews in the area, no need to fly out to chicago early.

to americanincanada:
if you're stupid alot of normal words sound smart. don't worry about it.

i can guarentee a couple of things, 1) i use that word regularly and it isn't part of my vocabulary to sound smart it is to be word economical. 2) i am pretty sure that i don't need to use fancy words to come off as intelligent. 3) if you want to have a battle of the minds just let me know, get yourself a flight to seattle and we will see who is smarter.

now can someone that doesnt have a 15 inch object shoved up their rectum answer my question. thanks again.

hahaha... i am once again reminded of why i dont like debating tournaments...

it seems like the final word in all threads pertaining to admissions to the university of chicago is

"write good essays."

So there you have it.

Just write a good essay. Interviewing, visiting, etc., doesn't matter if you write a bad essay. Take your time on it, and have it edited by a teacher.

and mitigate isn't such an uncommon word.

I saw the same exact opening post by lexy511... what's going on?

-how do i mitigate the damages from such a mediocre gpa?

Continue the rising trend. Good SAT II's will also indicate that have actually managed to learn something.

-ive heard applying ea gives me a much better shot at getting in, is this true.

EA isn't a big bump at Chicago - and wasn't much of one this year at all. Last year, my son waited to apply RD so that he would have his first semester senior grades considered. I believe that waiting let him write and submit a better essay.

If you decide to apply EA, try to set up an alumni interview in your area.

I need to figure out how to start those space consuming debates on my threads so people will see the number, read, and respond.

YEAH ARE YOU GREG OR LEXY OR ARE YOU SCHIZO.

btw i like schizo ppl theyre interesting. i dont like liars

im greg- my lexy account was "gagged" because i had a post where i swore at a fellow forumer who was being a jerk. there ya have it.

what if i apply ea and get differed... will they look at my 1st semster grades when RD rolls around?

Yes, 1st semester grades will be considered in the RD process after having been deferred. Like ohio_mom said, an upward trend will help significantly. As for SAT IIs, it's my understanding that they don't matter at UofC. I actually asked about them myself and was told that they will look at them, but the tests won't be a factor in admission. If you are deferred, send in an updated transcript and any supplemental materials that reflect more recent activities, etc. Still, phenomenal essays seem to be the way to go...

im taking sat 2's anyway.

is math 2c, us hist, world hist adequate? or should i only take one history a math and then a science...?

what the hell? Why would they not look at SAT II's as a factor in admission?
