For those that are wondering, looking at past threads - Uchig waitlists a lot of people every year (or at least the majority of CC posters).
@dryorange ouch. That’s a weird situation. Most coach’s support requires a student to apply ED. Students who apply Regular decision to lots of schools don’t get that support because the coach can’t be sure the student will accept even if he or she gets in. It’s a two way street.
I would contact the coach at Tufts asap, and tell him or her what has happened, and emphasize that you WILL go there if you get in.

@intellectboy No, it’s just a pool of applicants.
@Hizeus Pretty much the only thing you can do is the letter of continued interest and/or any new information you have about your activities. Waitlist chances aren’t great to begin with, and will probably be small this year as well given the large number of people.

@ThankYouforHelp Yeah. ED killed me as I applied to Chicago ED and got deferred so that screwed me over. JHU and Swarthmore are tough during rd and both coaches suggested I apply to a few others. Ultimately I was rejeected. Praying to god I get into Tufts. Already sent coach email.

Deferred EA ACCEPTED RD
ACT: 35 GPA: (W) 4.71 (UW) 4.0
Notes: after getting deferred I sent in a deferral letter expressing my continued interest and sent some updates and corrections along with it.
Strengths: my essays were good I think. I especially liked my Favorites essay. Uchicago likes students with a strong voice and I think my favorites essay was totally me. Then my GPA and Test scores.
Weaknesses: my ECs are a bit on the weak side. I don’t have many major awards to speak for. But I think at a school like Uchicago, they review applications very holistically and weigh your essays a lot. Just my thoughts haha.
I have no idea how I was waitlisted. My stats are almost abysmal compared to UChicago’s standards (3.5 GPA; 2080 SAT). I literally only applied because they kept on extending the deadline for me (till the 9th of Jan) and someone told me we get a free t-shirt. My essays, however, were very, very strong. My two main CommonApp essays were written and perfected over a period of 5 months. The “Why UChicago?” and “Favourites List” (I just listed the titles/names under the exact headings given in the question without any description) was written in a single day. The “Why UChicago?” turned out solid though. I’m sure my stats kept me from getting accepted but I’m shocked that something in my application kept me from a outright rejection (I know waitlist is an eventual rejection). I wonder if it was the essays. I’m an international student by the way. I don’t think anyone could be happier at being waitlisted at a college than I am.
