From what I understand, UChicago has no minimum SAT, ACT, or GPA.

I’m planning on applying EA, and I hope they don’t switch to ED.

Did you see this blog on the NY Times site about the student who was rejected from UChicago and Yale? But accepted at Princeton and Dartmouth.

@elizaruns it most definitely is a friendly campus. when I visited and stayed with my friend, all these people were patting me on the head and gushing “oh my godddd you’re a prospie!!! come to U of C!!!” It made me feel pretty special

:) thanks!

Hey,

I wanna ask: are there any international students applying to the U of C? (or do you know anyone?) I’m from Toronto, ON, and I’m considering, if only because they have some great essay topics. = )

“Are there any international students applying?”

Hahaha. There will be many, my friend; this is only one the United States’ best universities. Keep in mind that as far as financial aid is concerned, you are NOT considered international.

Yeah, the financial thing makes me grateful. = )

I was just wondering because most of the people I do know (both internationally and here in Canada) seem to be only concerned with the Ivies, Stanford and MIT.

Chicago is actually considered more international than most American universities. And it’s often regarded more highly internationally than it is in America, from what I’ve heard.

UChicago has been my favorite option as a school for the last year and a half. <3
The only problem is the money, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

Definitely applying EA here, 'cause I want to compare to my other top two choices.

More than likely an Economics major here. If not Econ, then Physics and Math double major. :D

If I get in…D:

So there was an admissions event/info session at my school, and the Dean of Admissions was scheduled to be there along with our regional counselor. Unfortunately, the Dean couldn’t be there because he was sick. A few days later, we all get emails saying that we should email him (the Dean) our t-shirt sizes for free shirts as his way of apologizing. I’m pretty psyched about this :P

lol they did that in new york too!
some people had to sit on the floor because more people showed up than anticipated, so as a way of apologizing he offered to send free tshirts :D

Fun fact:

2011 Rhodes Scholars by School:

Every other school – less

Lol I’ve gotten so much junk mail from colleges I could wallpaper the whole house. Chicago is the only school that has sent me apparel, and it made me like them so much more

Aw! Chicago hasn’t sent me apparel just mail. Lucky! Wear it proud! :)

Free t-shirts sound nice.

Does anybody know if they require the essay (Writing) section of the ACT?

^^no, they don’t require the writing section of the ACT
And the t-shirt came when I sent them my scores

Hey guys. I’m a junior now very interested in U Chicago now so I thought I’d share my Chicago story for anyone who’s interested.

So U Chicago was at the bottom of my “top” choices, behind Caltech, MIT, Harvey Mudd, and Stanford… The only things that really appealed to me about UChicago was the essay prompts that were the reason I even heard about the school. Also it was pretty. Very pretty. The quirky letters and free T shirt they sent me definitely boosted my opinion of the school too, but since I’m interested in computer science, the other four schools on my list were much higher priority for me because they seemed to be much better known in the field…

But then I visited the campus… And it was like… I haven’t even found the words to properly describe it yet. I loved everything about it, and I’m not just talking about the pretty buildings. Although they were very, very pretty… But just the feel of the campus, and the people, and the city itself(I spent a couple days downtown with some family before I actually went to the campus tour). It just clicked. U Chicago is my top choice now. As soon as I got back from the visit I did a ton more research into the academics at Chicago and I feel that my first impression of their computer science program was pretty shallow and really just based off what I had been told from people who had no real idea about the school. So I’m really excited to be applying now, although I might wind up changing my mind by next year(I’ve changed my #1 choice every year, from MIT, to Caltech, and now to UChicago… But I really hope I’m not going to change my mind again!)… I’m glad I got the chance to visit because that’s what really, really sold the school to me. Just being on the campus.

So anyway, obviously if you’re here you’re considering UChicago, but if you were like me and it’s a lower choice on your list, I really, really encourage visiting the campus, if you can. Of course what’s a better fit for me might not be a better fit for you, and you should probably visit every school you are seriously considering, but I have visited most of the schools on my list already and this is genuinely the only one that had such a huge impression on me from the moment I stepped onto the campus. Pictures and descriptions alone don’t do it justice. The atmosphere can’t be described, but it’s awesome. Which is describing it, I guess… But you know what I mean. Probably.

So how’s it going, class of 2012/2016? =P And if you’re already set on Chicago, what was it that appealed to you the most about it?

Ah, I have an incomprehensible amount of love for the school, to the point of butterflies any time it’s mentioned. Out of a sea of little cards and letters, Chicago stuck out completely (only Kenyon College managed to get my attention better, and that’s only because they shamelessly exploited Harry Potter xD ).

I visited their open house, had a fantastic blue-haired tour guide, and fell utterly in love with the campus and the atmosphere. Nowhere else that I’ve visited feels even remotely the same. I was, to my knowledge, the sole kid from the South at Chicago’s open house though (out of a couple thousand!), which made me feel rather awkward. There’s some culture shock there, but I think the atmosphere is enough to let me get over that rather quickly.

And so far I’ve gotten two free tee shirts. Bribery just sweetens the deal. ;)

There may have been some Florida kids at the open house, UChicago is a pretty popular school down here, among the kids who apply out of state… That being said, not many kids apply out of state. And you probably don’t consider Florida South anyway, heh. I’m guessing there’d be more people from all over the country, including the South, who actually go to the school though, most people just don’t tend to go to an open house that’s so far away.

UChicago is my number 1 choice I WISH they brought ED back :(. Anyway EA for me I just need to score well on oct sat.
