UChicago class of 2016 Early Action applicants unite!

Accepted from Egypt! I’m so stoked, and can’t wait to see you all there! :)

Congratulations on the merit scholarships, by the way!

Got the acceptance packet in the mail today - so excited! Is 5K the standard merit amount (because that’s what I was awarded too)?

congratulations to all of you ((: i got accepted early action, but if i want to be considered for merit scholarships, did i have to fill out a financial aid form? i only checked the box on the supplement saying that i want to be considered…

Do you guys mind tell me what your stats were?

(The people who got merit scholarships)

I got merit.
My stats: 2380 SAT, 4.0.
Some national awards, but few leadership positions.

I’m around page 5 of the results thread.
Um, I hope that helps.

I believe the merit scholarships are 5k, 10k, and 15k. I’m not sure how many people receive them, however. I’ve also heard that the scholarships are given based on a holistic review rather than on SATs/GPA alone.

My stats: 2320 SAT, 3.87, no national awards besides NMSF, leader of one or two clubs. If you want more detail, look in the results thread.

Frankly, I’m pretty surprised I got merit - I think the only reason I stood out was my essays.

Does anyone know the admission rate for UChicago EA this year?

phoenixcelestius, I posted this on the last page. It’s a little over 17%

[Early Line on Early Admissions - NYTimes.com](Early Line on Early Admissions - The New York Times)

hey did any of you guys get a chance to request an interview if u were deferred

i got a link on my uchicago account page

Are any EA applicants rejected? Or is everyone not admitted EA reviewed again?

There are many EA applicants who were rejected.
And if you are rejected your application is not going to be reviewed again.

Guys, I have a question.
For UChicago supplement, question 2 (optional) which asks to share a few of your favorite books, poems, authors, films, etc

Do you guys simply list them out? Or do you guys just choose a category and simply write?

I chose to write an essay on my three favorite pastimes and hobbies.

Its best if you write an essay instead of listing stuff. You have more space to show your personality.

However you think works best for you is fine. I did a list with one sentence explanations for each of them.

I wrote about a favorite book and a favorite movie. I found a common theme and then connected that theme with my own life.

I listed a lot of things I liked, with fabulously no explanation.
I listed books, poems, performers, music genres, musicals, paintings, artists, etc.
I thought that they already had over 8 pages of my writing, so I felt like it was time to give them more pieces to the puzzle and let the chips fall where they may.
It worked out in my favor!
(If I don’t get better financial aid somewhere else I’m really feeling UChicago as home for the next 4 years!)

Anyone going to one of the admitted students “Snow Days” in Jan or Feb?
