Uhh yeah… I guess a month. I also applied ED to Columbia, but I started that one earlier in September.
  4. Did you do the optional favorites essay?
Yes. I had a lot to say haha
  5. The topic you chose for your creative essay?

6- Don’t talk about reverse psychology. It was really fun to do and was risky.

6) In your opinion, which was your best essay?
Common App essay
7) What you want to major in
History or Journalism
8) Whether Chicago’s a safety/likely/reach school for you
Hahaha not a safety… Reach school. So is Columbia.
9) How badly do you want to go on a scale of 1 to 10?
8, would be a 10 if not for Columbia.

I’m really afraid of being rejected since I don’t have the greatest SAT scores. So yeah I’m nervous!

Ohi, I’m actually a current student, but if anybody has any questions, feel free to ask. I remember lurking these boards last year during the longgg wait.

aangel - I submitted two of my slam poems (recordings) along with a word document with the poems written out.

blueshirt21, any complaints so far about U of C?

It appears as if I am the only one who did not do the optional essay. We shall see how this works out…

I sent my transcript by mail during the last week of October and I’m freaking out because they still have not updated my UChicago account with it.

ChickenFriedRyce - The UChicago account says they don’t expect to have any materials up until mid-November. My account certainly doesn’t have anything up yet.

hmm, complaints? wellllll. Its getting colder…
What else…Sometimes the food in the dining halls get repetitive. But any big complaints? not really. Love it here. SO MUCH.

Hi blueshirt21! :)

What do you plan to major in?

By the way have any of you guys gotten interview emails?

1) Where you’re from
NJ

2) When you submitted your application
10/30

3) How long/hard you WORKED on your app (very applicable for UChicago :P)
Got an idea for the reverse psychology essay randomly and wrote it up in an hour. Took some time revising it later. Worked longer on the Common App essays in general since it’s for most of my other schools, too.

4) Did you do the optional favorites essay?
Yeah, pretty unique paragraph on a book I received for my middle school gifted&talented program.

5) The topic you chose for your creative essay?
Reverse Psychology

6) In your opinion, which was your best essay?
All of them were good but in different ways (humor, creativity, passion, etc.)

7) What you want to major in
Economics/Math

8) Whether Chicago’s a safety/likely/reach school for you
Likely - top of the class in a competitive private school with 130 in a grade with 15% accepted to Ivys a year. 10 Total APs, no self-studies, scored 5 on all of them. GPA was all A’s in freshman year, and every consecutive year it rose by a consistent margin: junior year my grades were nearly A+s across the board. Took multi-variable and currently taking linear algebra (post-AP course). 2310 on SAT (took once), 800 on Math II, 780 Physics, 780 US. Major EC = swimming, 3 hours every day, every week, every year, nationally competitive and receiving a coach recruit letter from the Chicago swim coach. Other major ECs include debate, economics club, math league: 2 hours every day, received a good supplemental rec from debate coach.

9) How badly do you want to go on a scale of 1 to 10?
5: I desire to go purely because of the outstanding academic quality, but other institutions (Wharton, MIT, Harvard, Dartmouth, etc.) all rank higher on my scale.

Good luck to all!

@aangel42
I plan to major in political science, but as of now that means nothing-I’m still taking classes for the Core.

Is anyone else missing test scores on the prospects website? I sent my ACT scores already… not sure how to handle this.

I described my non-scientific method (it was not as creative as I would have like it to be, but what can I do?)

Favorites. They were all adequate but I just didn’t quite get the bizarre prompt I was looking for.
7) What you want to major in
Mathematics and/or physics
8) Whether Chicago’s a safety/likely/reach school for you
My stats would say reach, but they took 31 kids from my school last year so I’m cautiously hopeful.
9) How badly do you want to go on a scale of 1 to 10?
10. It would be freaking awesome!!!

1) Where you’re from
West Coast
2) When you submitted your application
At the last possible minute.
3) How long/hard you WORKED on your app (very applicable for UChicago :P)
Ah…I had my ideas rolling around since summer vacation. Spent a month putting together my Common App essay, but ended up writing most of the supplement during the two weeks before the deadline. I basically worked 24/7 during the last few days trying to perfect stuff (and cheerfully flunked a physics test because of it…).
4) Did you do the optional favorites essay?
Yep.
5) The topic you chose for your creative essay?
Reverse psychology. I didn’t address the prompt directly, though.
6) In your opinion, which was your best essay?
Common App, definitely. The rest had potential, but could have benefited from a little more editing.
7) What you want to major in
Decidedly undecided.
8) Whether Chicago’s a safety/likely/reach school for you
Reach.
9) How badly do you want to go on a scale of 1 to 10?
10, more’s the pity.

GUYS… I can’t wait till Mid December! When do you think they’ll release the results? I’m hoping for around December 8th…

It’ll probably be later, towards the end of December.

I have a feeling it’ll be a bit later than usual as well. Because of the extension in the EA deadline for East Coast applicants and the fact that there’s been a 25% increase in applications over last year, it definitely has to take them longer to make quality decisions! Unless they don’t sleep at all for the next few weeks - which frankly would not be good for any of us, so I’m okay with waiting a week longer! (but definitely not more than that) So I’m guessing the third week of December…
