UChicago Class of 2022 Discussion

Did you guys get an email confirming that all your ED material were received by UChicago? On my UChicago Account there are check marks next to everything, but I never got an email…

I also never got an email to say that the checklist was up. I just saw it myself one day when I logged on. Did you guys get an email for this? Or am I for some reason not getting emails from UChicago…

@philthephoenix No, I don’t believe I did. Honestly I go onto my account twenty times a day, especially while waiting for everything to get processed, so that’s how I knew everything was submitted. But no, I didn’t get any notifications. As long as everything has checkmarks next to it, you’re fine.

Thanks @summerhazed. I feel a little better now… though the wait still stinks. Best of luck to you!

Thanks, good luck to you too!

Yes.

P.s. nice nick name. I punned the crap out of that in my essay. “Phil myself with knowledge” lol

So has it been established yet what the “Your UChicago Application is Complete” email means? Does it simply mean they have everything or does it mean they have a decision for it they’re not sharing yet?

@Rand2020 I think it means that they received everything, and we can just relax now knowing that everything on our part is done (or continue to constantly agonize over it for the next few weeks like me)

@friendfiend My parents both went to Chicago Booth Graduate School of Business. My mom joked that only UofChicago would create such a complex undergraduate application structure. She says hang in there it’s a great school and that no matter what anyone tells you fun DOES NOT die there unless you let it. Good luck.

If anyone is eager to learn more about UChicago, and specifically about the academics, I really recommend the book “Doing Honest Work in College: How to Prepare Citations, Avoid Plagiarism, and Achieve Real Academic Success”. My S wrote his common app essay on that and was accepted! I really recommended, it’s a riveting read

^^ Also, it’s the book they hand out to the first years during O-Week so obviously it’s considered to be a helpful resource.

i am sitting here at midnight cramming for my bio subject test and im just v thankful that chicago does not require subject tests but also v upset bc i know my ed rejection is going to come in the mail soon so this score actually needs to be decent and im just haha upset

When are UChicago early action admission decisions coming out?

I think someone said earlier that it was supposed to be the 18th on the college board website. UChicago only lists the date as mid-December. It’s so close

I’m thinking that I will withdraw my ED application and switch it to RD. Yesterday, I happened to be down at UPenn- not on a visit, just happened to be there- and I don’t know, I just felt like I belonged there. And that led me to the realization that I had never seriously considered any school other than UChicago. U of C is the only school I’ve taken an official tour of, went to an info session for, discussed with my parents, etc. So of course I stuck with the idea of applying ED, since it was seemingly my only option. I’ve had many doubts whether or not UChicago is right for me in the past year, but I ignored them. I probably pressured myself into applying ED, since the RD rate is so low, but now I realize that if the school isn’t right for me, then I probably shouldn’t go there. As a naturally indecisive person, closing myself to other options just hurts me. So doing something as binding as ED is not right for me.

I probably won’t do anything just yet, because I need time to think it over, but obviously it needs to be soon. So if I end up withdrawing, good luck to all you ED/EA applicants, and maybe I’ll see you next fall

That’s a tough decision to make. What’s the RD acceptance rate at UPenn? Have you thought about starting at UC and then transferring?

Penn’s RD rate is around 7% I believe. But that does not take into account the specific school I’m applying to (college of arts and sciences where i’m applying has higher acceptance rate than Wharton or SEAS) or the fact that I live in Pennsylvania, the most represented and possibly most competitive state at Penn. So it’s a risk I’m making, giving up my good chances at UChicago ED for low RD chances, but it is the right choice for me.

I’ve considered going to UC and then transferring, but honestly I think it’s pointless. Transfer is often harder than freshman admissions, so it’s not like it’ll be easy or anything. And I certainly do not want to go into college already thinking I’ll transfer. I’d much rather choose the best school for me before I start undergrad, not during.

What if you waited to see what UC says then make the decision? You can always opt out by saying you didn’t receive enough money.

^^ the above strategy may not work if @summerhazed didn’t apply for fin. aid.

^^ i think that’s also a risky move–if you tell them that, they might increase your finaid packet or do somethign else to keep you binded to the school. I also agree that you shouldnt come in feeling like you’d want to transfer. I’m all for going to a school you feel the most “fit” for, so if you feel like you have a strong enough chance at Penn RD, I’d say go for it! but it definitely is a tough decision to make. @summerhazed
