I think your son is in!
Has anyone else received this notification or any sort of email from the admissions office?
Got a letter of acceptance this afternoon.
omg really congrats! Whats the secret
I know the secret. If you go through this thread, you will know.
I’ve been active follower of the chat and my interpretation of the secret is a great LOCI 🧍🏽♀
Apparently you did not follow me closely.
my bad… can you give me a quick summary
I took a quick look at your posts… My EFC is 0 for FAFSA
so I am not in a great position 🧍🏽♀️
Are you speaking from experience about FinAid or are you just speculating?
I have no horse in this race, but I highly doubt this. Admission off the waitlist is an admission decision. Admission decisions are advertised as need blind. If they consider financial need in deciding who to take from waitlist, then that is a huge problem.
My son sent a decent LOCI. Kept it short and sweet (had a great subject line…probably worked on that more than the letter). Sending it before Ivy Day probably helped.
As many on the waitlist, he has a great profile. Plus we are applying from a region that typically doesn’t send many kids to Chicago, particularly for math majors. Our high school which is geared for college prep hasn’t sent someone to Chicago in 15-20 years.
I had seen the admitted stats from waitlist. We knew last year was high and that previous years were really low. Our guidance counselor figured it’d be in between this year…so we thought there was a fighting chance, given the schools where he was accepted.
Mom and sons will visit Chicago next week to make a decision.
Did you guys apply for financial aid?
Nope
ah
Where would ur son be headed if UChicago hadn’t worked out?
Duke. He had accepted this past Sunday. In their form, he told them he was on the waitlist at Chicago.
If you don’t mind could you detail the process of getting off the waitlist a bit more. Did they end up calling you? If not how were you informed of the acceptance?
It was all by email, no calls.
He sent a LOCI a week before Ivy Day.
They sent him an a mail from the AO on Tuesday afternoon gauging interest. He replied via email a couple hours later that Chicago was his number one option.
He got an email the next morning from the AO thanking for the prompt reply. Tha same afternoon he got an email with his acceptance offer from the Dean of Admissions. It all happened very quickly.
so far as I know, those who got off the list, didn’t apply for FA.
