Isn’t I-House far from a dining hall?
@FunkyMonkey22 In general: More partying = larger, newer dorms with fewer singles = South, North, Max. Gym = north side of campus = North, Max, Snitchcock. Scav = remaining pockets of traditional UChicago quirkiness = Snitchcock, BJ, maybe the remnants of some of the small off-campus houses now in North. Fun = dead. Duh.
But don’t take any of that seriously. You will not be branded or molded by the dorm you are in. If the people around you are not into parties, you won’t lack for parties to go to elsewhere. If the people around you are not into Scav – shockingly, many Chicago students, perhaps even a majority, aren’t – it’s easy to join up with a team from another dorm.
Lol. You just made every hardcore old UChicago fan cringe Somebody who wants to party and stay away from the Library at UChicago? The school is changing and being infiltrated by students who actually want a normal college experience!!!
A conversation with my younger child, when he was in high school comparing Chicago and a first-rate public flagship:
Kid: I’m a little bit scared about Flagship. You know, I like to party some. I have a sense that at Flagship I could fall down a bottomless pit without meaning to, like [a kid we knew who had come close to drinking himself out of college there the year before]. At Chicago, I know the pit isn’t bottomless. I’ve seen the bottom. It’s [my sister] and her friends.
Parent: [Your sister] is the bottom of the pit at Chicago? That has to be a very shallow pit!
Kid: It is. It’s a very shallow pit.
@JHS I have it from very good sources who are there now, that the pit is not at all shallow at Chicago. It runs deep if you want it to run deep. Quite deep. The school is definitely not your “Father’s Chicago”
These sources laugh when they hear “Where fun goes to die”
@denydenzig eh…OP hasn’t committed yet. A lot of people who want a bigger party scene change their minds after they visit or talk to students.
Not that there aren’t students that like partying here, or that liking partying is incompatible with being a UChicago student. That’s a very one dimensional way of seeing the school’s culture.
Also…are you proud of UChicago’s ability to occasionally produce alcoholics? Or am I misreading your tone? I think that’s actually one of the most shameful parts of the school…
hey! I go to uchicago you should really go for snell hitch cock if you want a party dorm…its right in the middle of campus so right in the middle of everything!!
highest tier sorority is AOII by far also
@msx1234 can you clarify housing priority determined by “date of enrollment?” So EDIs will all have first priority etc? If you were accepted in last couple of days are housing prospects bleak?
Party school? Dorms far from the libraries? The school is producing alcoholics?
What thread is this?
