So, platypigirl12, you’re not alone in feeling like your essays were the wrong length.

I did mine as 1-2 paragraph answers too @platypigirl
Probably because my extended essay was over 1000 words…

My main essay was 432 words, my Why U Chicago 286 words, and my media (a few paragraphs about The West Wing) was 274 words.

My main essay is probably a lot shorter than many of yours, but I think it finds strength in its brevity. I was very concise, didn’t waste a word, and it worked.

Solidarity! Woo! ;)

Even though they weren’t “long” per say, they both were about 250 words. Whereas my extended essay was about 750 and I had a panic attack about length until it fit in the page recommendations. I think the short and extended balanced each other out. I hope anyway.

hi guys! my extended was on the short side -500 words and my supps were 250 and 300.

Just fyi - we will get an email sometime informing us that results are available, then we have to log on to prospects to see the result. Just that extra 25 seconds of torture…

My why uchicago was a short essay, but my favorite things was more life a few lists of different categories :/

And really, just an email as soon as it’s available? I wish they’d give some notice so I can prepare emotionally hahah

Thank you for that information; I was unaware of that! So we receive letters in the mail at a later date?

an email seems so anticlimactic

They will announce what date decisions will come out on. On that day, we will get an email telling us to go to the U Chicago account, where we can view our decision.

I think I read somewhere that the rejectees/deferrees don’t get paper mails(good or bad thing?), only the lucky ones get a package in mail.

Did anyone apply for theatre major?

In an of your opinions, does it make a difference what major is selected for admissions purposes?

no difference, they just want to get a sense of your interests

omg everyone here is so smart this is so scary

@van don’t be scared, i don’t bite (although I do have a wicked strong bearhug)

@ewigewig I feel like it might make a slight difference. For instance, the economics department is going to be flooded with applicants, especially following not one but TWO Nobel winners followed by snagging that professor from MIT, so they might take fewer of those. The linguistics department might throw a fit and say that U of C isn’t admitting enough Slavic languages majors, so anyone who applies in that might have a slightly better chance or be forgiven for lesser test scores. Does that make sense?

@theatregeek I applied for theatre! I’m so glad I’m not alone :)

Applied for economics…

Go big or go home right?

@neon If you want to make above six figures for the rest of your life, you’re applying to the right school.
